How to make children fun
Hey guys,
So I'm a Sims series veteran, and I still hard stand by The Sims 2 and I love The Sims 3 too, but I can't get into The Sims 4, no matter how much content is added. I thought about why this is for a little bit, and ultimately it comes down to one thing - The Sims 4 is entirely based around Young Adult play. It's a millennial simulator, as others have said. There's nothing fun about children in this game. But maybe I'm just playing them wrong?
In The Sims 2 they could essentially do anything a full grown sim could with only a few restrictions such as being able to cook or use certain items, and The Sims 3 is similar, with the exception that some skills were age restricted. With Generations in the mix, there was also a ton of child exclusive content.
On the other hand, the issue I've had with The Sims 4 is every child feels the same. They get the same 4 aspirations, which after doing once, are boring. They have one trait - again, boring. You have to build the same children skills to 10 over and over again to even unlock adult skills. Boring. Not only are children boring, but they stay as children way too long for how boring they are, on the default normal lifespan, and I get sick of them and want to age them up fairly quickly. Same with babies - in fact I don't think I've ever kept a baby as a baby for the full 3 days in The Sims 4, given even EA recognises how boring they are and you have the option to immediately age them up by clicking on them.
So, with that said, how do you make children (and babies) fun to play in The Sims 4? I need ideas, because this is the biggest barrier for me getting into the game. If mods are necessary, so be it. I do have Parenthood already, and it really doesn't increase my enjoyment of children very much. The projects and stuff are decent, but I just don't feel there's enough there.
