I've always written my own storylines out, backstories, parents all that with all that information is stored on a thumb drive. I've got over 220 sims of my own over dozens of households, possibly upwards of 100.
It is precisely why i did this because TS4 lacks this storylines and backgrounds features. I'd prefer a far more complicated situation with personal relationships and familial relationships with ancestral families like the Landgraabs and Alto. I've got old families of my own, the Manning's, Alderra's, Al Firaqqi's, Manderbrook's. I also got other old families like the Matthews, Everson's and Damme's.
The Manderbrook's are in competition with the Everson's (Brandy Everson is not involved, she made that clear to both families).
The Al Firaqqi's and Alderra's dislike each other.
The Alderra's consider the Manning's as close friends (Caleb Alderra is an exception, he is a third cousin to Julian Alderra. Caleb is unaware there are other Alderra's still living, so isn't involved in the feuding).
The Manning's aren't overly fond of the Alderra's.
The Matthews and Al Firaqqi's dislike each other (Sandra Matthews doesn't care about these rivalries).
The Alderra's and Damme's are good friends to each other.
The Damme's dislike the Manderbrook's.
It is a long complicated family rivalry there that can't be explained easily. But that is one part of it, the personal relationships i'd love to see really fleshed out properly without having to rely on plumtree or any other ancestral tree building site. it would be great to see in the relationships: From Julian Alderra's point of view, Caleb Alderra: "3rd cousin, 1st removed" or something to that effect.
It would also be nice if relationships aren't so monotone, with it being one way or the other with nothing in between to muddy the waters a bit. Jacob Brantson likes Laurel Plato a lot, but Laurel Plato hates his guts, it would cause a very interesting situation.
Jacob is trying to be super friendly but Laurel is utterly hostile and merciless about it, and any positive comments are seen as poison to her but equally poisonous comments are seen even worse. on the other end, if Laurel starts being positive, it doubles the rate Jacob builds his relationship but Laurel's relationship increase in almost non-existent because it is past the point of no return for her, assuming she has anything nice to say at all.
Same can be true if Malcolm Landgraab walks in and sweeps Laurel off her feet, it would cause resentment from Jacob towards Malcolm and potentially a hostile response, where as Malcolm doesn't care to notice the cage creature Jacob, so nothing gained or lost. Laurel's relationship towards Jacob will take a big hit as well the more that green eyed monster comes out to play from Jacob.
I'd love to see some of the most complicated and intricate dynamic relationships one could get in TS4.

With Family histories and the like as touched on in a previous point, i got generations of family members in these families that aren't around and how they factor into things. Things the families gained and lost, reputations built good or bad and since lost or plateaued without losign anything. It would also be nice if for example other households treated the Landgraab's with a little more respect, after all their family controls a school and the power grid!
