If you live alone what happens to your house when you go uni?

What happens to the house and if you it's still yours how will you pay the rent?

  • You move out like you would if you were moving regularly so it's no longer yours.

So if you want to move back in after you're done with uni, your best bet is to get a "housesitter" whom you can move in with after graduation. Or, at the very least, make sure you're bringing all your personal things if you don't plan on moving back to the same house.

Do you get your money back from the house you just bought?
  • You get all your funds (house+savings) to proceed to the campus. Of course, without side activities you will lose money, so make sure not to get bankrupt before coming back to your original home.
  • I was wondering about the same thing myself, as I've got an orphaned Teen living alone with two dogs and I realized I'll need to create/download another Sim and have him/her/them live at the house while my main Sim if off to college once she ages up. But I guess it's reasonable that the house is up for sale, considering pretty much the same thing happens in real life for those who don't live with their parents and stuff. I can't wait to have the pack in my hands, only a few more days now!
  • Owning a residential lot is the same as in any other world. One household can only be connected to one lot. So, if a single sim from Oasis Springs wants to stay in a single household (residential lot) in Britechester, you will sell your Oasis Springs house when moving to Britechester, and then after graduating sell the Britechester lot when/if moving back to Oasis Springs, where you would need to buy your old lot back - like if you bought just any lot.

To keep all belongings and avoid NPC households to move in (if you have such mods), you can do what I did. I created a Placeholder household, and when a single sim goes away for a limited period, say to campus, I use Household Management to move 1 Placeholder sim into the home - kinda for looking after it. I don't play the householder sims, they are just placeholders. If my single sim has relatives in the game, I'd much prefer to move in a relative to care for the house though, cause it would add more to the story.

Doing it this way your sim can even visit your old home if you want to pretend s/he still owns it and need to go back to check stuff.
  • You don't have to move into the dorms. You can keep the house, and the pets, by choosing your current house as your place to live. If you can't afford the bills, you'll have to earn some money or sell some stuff, just like always.

Earning money should be easy enough. You can paint, write, hack, make furniture (woodworking), do videogame tournaments, collect stuff, whatever fits your sim's skills and interests. You could even ask other sims for loans if your charisma is high enough. It might even help your grades if you're using a skill that fits one of your classes.
