I don't know what other explanation there is for it. I'm ALWAYS finding some other weird choice in game feature implementation that makes no sense. Today it's the "______'s spirit is fading away". First time I've played the game for a long stretch, and now all the adults are starting to die. All at once, actually, since it was a new game. And I've gotten 24 of the messages in a row...so far. As if I don't already have enough spam from the phone texts and calls. So I'm guessing that since they added the culling guard where you favorite families, now every time one of them dies you get one of these messages? Wow. And no one thought this was a bad idea, because you were bound to start getting them by the truckload? Add in a decent feature, find a way to make it yet another royal pain. Yep, that's the Maxis I've come to expect.

That message means that the ghosts are about to be culled. It's a warning to people who don't want that to happen. You can go in and change your settings or set the people to played so they don't get culled. If I played with aging on I might be appreciative of such an addition.

I think this was actually an 'idea' on the idea board and it was put in due to players wanting some type of notification.

While I respect your opinion, this is overkill. As you said, if you don't want them to be culled, you can go in and make them played. It's bad enough that the game is so poorly designed that you have to have a setting to save sims from being wiped out by a rampaging program. If it just stopped creating sims to the point where it had too many to function, it wouldn't have to delete some in the first place. But warning us about EVERY SINGLE dying sim is ridiculous. How many people save ghosts to begin with? And what am I supposed to do about the warning in the first place? I just went out and moved everyone out of my favorites but my sim family, and none of the "fading spirits" were even shown in the family screens. Are there actually urns and tombstones all over the place now waiting for me to go and strengthen their connection? If they have so much spare time on their hands to come up with stuff like this, I'd rather they did something like fix the lights so auto-lights worked consistently, and saved the dimming settings right.

I checked it out, and by the comments there, what players seemed to have been concerned about were things like losing legacy and played families ghosts. There's a big difference to me between a random sim family that I might add to my favorites and a played one that would also be in there. I would've had no problem with messages about a played family's spirit, but one for ALL of the ones in favorites is silly, and it makes it look like they still can't make the game know the difference between played and non-played families, hence the blanket favorite label.

I think its getting a little intense now too.... I think its a nice feature, but in my last save, my heir knew lots of stray pets, trying to complete the animal aspiration. Once i turned aging on and all those pets died, i was getting countless notifications! 2 or 3 of the same at a time as well. And theyre strays... Where would their tombstone even be?

Point of fact. These sims that I'm getting messages about aren't even favorites. I removed all my favorites, and I'm still getting messages about Sims I've never even heard of. So that's pretty peachy keen, and any usefulness factor gets pretty much overwhelmed in big heaping piles of spam.

I play on Long, and so far have never seen this notification. Now, I age up my Sims whenever I'm ready, so just having it set to Long doesn't mean I have to play Sims of a certain age for the entire length.
