I'm finding making money too easy.

I never thought Id say it, but I'm finding making money too easy. I started with one sim and basic legacy rules (not a legacy as such, just nabbing starting rules etc).

She bought the 64x64 lot in Brindleton bay and a couple of statues (takes money to desired levels and kickstarts the bills) and built this with the remainder.

I haven't cheated money at all, don't have much (if any after the cull I did recently) cc furniture (it can be a bit cheaper), she's made money via paintings, which she has to do for her job, working (her and Leonel) and her small garden (Dragon fruit 'borrowed' from the spice festival). They can barely afford the bills, but it's a big house and there's a lot of furniture.

The heir will get the lot if I go by the game (No inheritance), as it stands I doubt there'll be a lot of cash, but the house and contents will be worth a bit. I'm thinking of taking the last save, deleting all the home contents, seeing what the bricks and mortar are worth, and working out an inheritance. Say they stay at three kids, the bricks and mortar worth gets split three ways, then I can either do the same with the furniture worth, or work out what it's worth and have the heir pay the others to keep it. That way the heir will either have a decent start with furniture, or a better start with none and the other kids aren't left destitute (I'm planning on the heir moving to a smaller lot).

I'm also outlawing painting and writing and only allowing gardening if it's all the heir does (no job).

Any other ideas, I'm planning a vet clinic at some point too, but not yet.

It's the painting, it's ridiculously well paying. I haven't had this issue before, perhaps shes painting more than her fair share of masterpieces. I'm thinking of using mcc to make the bills more too. I might have the 3rd gen run a restaurant or clinic because hopefully there'll be less cash to splash since their banned from painting!

I agree with you..Once you've made sufficient simoleons..it's really just there...there's actually not much in the game to spend money on (just buying a house and paying bills are about the thing that take up significant cash from your household) no investments in community lots..buying additional assets...shopping...tuition bills..proper vacations spree .etc

Yeah, painting is an issue because of how well it pays and the relative speed with which you can crank them out.

I can identify - Had a sim buy the large lot in Newcrest and start with a one-room shack. He did not get a job just did gardening and selling the produce for a living. He now has a pretty big estate house and earning a pretty penny from his crops which he has club friends to help tend. Of course, he reaps the crops before the friends come. And no cheats involved at all.

I have one Sim who paints, and she has her own Art Gallery. I have never used motherlode in this game, and I managed to, I kid you not, make more than $600,000 through that art gallery in not even that much time. The key, I found, is to only restock your very expensive paintings (I have one painting worth $8,000 that sells for double the price), and to have your Sim paint some paintings every night before opening the gallery the next day. It's actually ridiculous how much she's made lol. She easily makes $50,000 every day - I've even had days where she earned more than $80,000.

This is what my Sim made in one day, selling only 13 paintings. Seriously, an Art Gallery + Painting level 10 (Vampire) = Guaranteed Richness. :smirk:

Ok I thought it was my imagination but I thought painting was a lot faster in ts4 than it had been up to ts3

I had a creative sim that liked to paint. Pretty soon his paintings were always worth thousands. I had him get a "real job" and he was making so much less! Even now, he's at a level 9 Mixologist and he's still not making what he was with Painting. Writing can make you loads of easy money too. Sometimes, I wish life was more like the Sims!

Painting pays way too much and is way too easy. You have to limit yourself on it, or just not do it. Some of my painters could whip out a masterpiece worth 12,000(painted in under an hour). It's ridiculous. My writing sims struggled for a long time and they were only making 9'000 a day off royalties. Then there's musicians which got hit with a big nerf hammer in TS4 and now they can barely make any kind of money.

I find freelance programming to be the one that takes the slowest to earn money with if you're looking for a non-career option. Yes some of the later stuff can earn you a bunch of money but it usually takes longer to do and you need a higher programming level to do it (creating video games can take quite a while) and you can always limit your sims to doing the lower level stuff if you don't want them to earn money too quickly.
