Interracial families: When genetics only go either way...

In my last legacy I had a family wherein the mother was very dark (dark skin, brown eyes, black hair) and the father was very light (blonde, green eyes) just like yours and I ended up with two kids that had the same coloring as their mother and one that looked just like her dad. (I don't have any pictures of them, unfortunately) But my last family I played ended up having two daughters that look like a pretty even mix between their parents:

The second daughter pictured has recently married + had a kid with a darker skinned townie. Their toddler looks like he has the same coloration as his dad, which is interesting because his mother is pretty relatively light skinned.

I've always gotten a mix.

Genetics in Sims 4 are sometimes a mixed bag, I usually edit my sims in CAS to have a more realistic representation of both parents. I recently had a daughter with a couple, I aged her up in CAS to see what she looks like when she’s older and she looks identical to her mother, no mixed features or anything, she is a spitting image of her mother.

Mine are usual a pretty good in-between, but sometimes they favour one parent or the other. I've found TS4 genetics to be better for this than TS2 was though, in TS2 if I had a skin 1 and skin 4 couple the babies would always without fail be either skin 1 or skin 4, whereas in TS4 they're usually more in the middle.

Travis Scott married a dark skinned woman in my game and they have a daughter. She originally had blonde hair and pale skin like Travis but I changed her hair colour to black and her skin the same shade as her mother's.

I usually get a mix also I think the game makes it so you get a hair color and skin color somewhere between the two parents. I can see where it would be weird for it to come out like the OP's did..

Actually in my experience with TS2 the kids could get an in-between skintone as long as both parents had original skintones (not cc). There were only 4 skintones so if one parent had the lightest and the other the darkest then the chance of getting either of them was probably 50%, but I'm pretty sure I did sometimes get the middle tones.

Genetics seems to be hit or miss with me as well in this game. But I also think it could be possible with all the custom skins I have, the game isn't sure which ones to assign my children when they age into a toddler. And it's not just couple where one parent is White and the other is Black. I have couples where they are both sims of color. One may be light skinned and the other is a medium brown. And the game made their child super dark.

I've even had the game go so far as giving the children different eye colors. Their parents could both be brown eyed, but the kids will have blue and green eyes. Or one parent will have black hair and the other red, and ALL of the kids come out with red hair. I'm so glad for MCCC, I just pop in there and fix everything.

I think genetics wise, Sims 2 does the best job of blending out how children look.

Yes, that's how it works in Sims 2. I genetized the alien skin as skin 5 and a cc bigfoot skin as skin 0 and between them they can produce alien skin, bigfoot skin and each of the four human skins. With six instead of just four skins the potential variety is more visible in actual gameplay :)

I find it really dependent, but the skintone seems the usually find a middle ground.
