Is anyone else disappointed with the High Maintenance trait?

Title says it all, really. I was just wondering if I'm alone in my frustrations or if anyone is having the same problems. At first I was really excited about its inclusion and the possibilities, especially after that trait update a while back, but....

Not only does it feel like it's lacking in depth with just completely random moodlets (Maybe it was silly of me, but I thought my high maintenance single college-going mom sim that's barely scraping by and has a wild toddler and is currently living off of mostly quick meals would have plenty to be stressed about, aside from randomly getting upset for hours about getting her behind splashed with toilet water) but I think my biggest gripe so far is the completely random "WORST DAY EVER" moodlet.

I've had my same sim die from cardiac explosion three times now because someone thought it was a good idea to have a random +5 angry moodlet that lasts for 8 hours I can't seem to do anything about 😭 other than try and bury it in positive moodlets. Calming her down at a mirror, cold showers, none of it is doing anything to even ease the moodlet a little and make it last a shorter amount of time, and I can't tell if that's a bug/oversight or meant to be a feature. :/

I feel like this would be one thing if it was actually triggered by something. The first time it happened her house was super dirty and her toddler was throwing a tantrum and her stove broke, so I thought that was it and it would have been a welcome challenge in that case if more could actually be done to counter it. But now that she's died twice in a spotless home after perfectly lovely mornings? I'm tired. 🥺

Sorry for the short rant, I was just so excited! And I want more challenge in the game and that's why I was excited, but this just feels excessive. Am I alone in feeling like this, or are others disappointed/having their own misadventures with the trait?

  • Oh, I really hope they just leave this trait alone. I gave it to several of my celebrities and now they seem like proper celebrities! Several have even become enraged for quite long periods of time with no real ill effects other than a nose dive in reputation and some damaged relationships but then that’s how celebrities are, aren’t they. Oh please please please devs! Leave this trait exactly as it is. ??

I have been loving the trait -- until now.

I've been diligent about mediating when I get angry or tense. And I just got a message that my sim is dying from cardiac explosion. But she isn't angry. She's Happy!

    She has:
+2 uncomfortable from being filthy (she was jogging, gardening, and taking care of the bees and hadn't gotten her shower yet)
    +3 happy from excellent holiday
+2 happy from making a new good friend
+fine from playing in a micro home.

What the heck! No anger at all and she dies from cardiac explosion???? That can't be right!

It’s likely the cardiac explosion was queued up in the background and it was too late by the time the happy emotion took over.

Except she'd had the +5 happy's for a few hours and never got an angry moodlet-- not when I received the notice, not when she collapsed to the ground and not when death showed up and took her.

What about mods, do you use mods? Especially mods that affect emotion?

Well, I loved seeing people post about it and then I actually played it. It's not even good. It's all random and makes no sense. See, this would be good if it actually enhanced gameplay, but it doesn't. It just makes stupid buffs appear almost randomly (the only one that made sense to me was from sitting). My sim never got to the emotional death because she does a lot of yoga. But overall, it's just a stupid trait that causes chaos for no apparent reason and has little to nothing to do with actually playing.

This is not a simulation. I wish the team would get back on track with simulation and not random dollhouse. If this is where they're headed, they should probably remove this game from the simulation genre since it doesn't do any of that and players who like simulation will be severely disappointed with this purchase.

Actually, I think the randomness is pretty realistic for 'high maintenance' people.

I'm high maintenance. If I'm upset, it's about something that actually happened. Maybe trivial, but it's a real concrete reason. My sim got mad at things she never even did. The buffs have nothing to do with your actual day. They're like...just pretend you sim did this and is upset about it. Well, no. This is a simulation game. I'm supposed to see what my sim did and maybe even cause some chaos myself through interactions. But she literally doesn't get angry about anything real except sitting??

This is what I expected from a high maintenance trait.

Certain interactions would make a negative buff appear:

Cooking - ew, got goo on my hands - uncomfortable

And household chores - this work is beneath me, find someone to boss around later or convince someone else to do your chores.

Eating and drinking - loves expensive food and drinks, karens out at the waitstaff for no flavor, maybe splashes a drink in someone's face. At home it will mostly be awful for anything under, say, level 8 of cooking skill.

Swimming - water is too hot or cold - and a perfect temp one.

After any exercising session - feels good, but disgusting. Must shower quickly or gets enraged.

Anyhow, stuff like that. The sim I created is a chef that dislikes cooking with the traits high maintenance, ambitious, and materialistic. She cooked a lot. Never once did cooking cause any mayhem. Instead she got buffs like worst day ever when she was completely happy. That one would make sense if I had her do things that made her unhappy, but she was happy all day.
  • I only ever had a Sim Very Angry before, I have yet to see enraged. And the Sim had high maintenance trait.
