Is gardening the only way to get ingredients for my baked goods?

baking would've been so much more less complicated and enjoyable if we could just buy from a grocery shop or npc or something :/

If and when I get this EP, my first order of business is to open a fully stocked grocery and then get it NPC run.
I'd love a mod (or an EA provided option) to make it so the fridge doesn't auto fill with food, if you don't have that ingredient in there then you go hungry.

I created a generic lot and set it up as a greenehouse and orchard look. I went thru the initial planting of everything id need ingredient wise for my bakery and then just go there and stock up as I need and keep it in my inventory...I used a 30×40 lot. I can change whats planted on this lot for whatever business I decide to run..produce, bakery, herb shop/witches shop. It saves me from traveling all over the worlds to harvest or spend my sims cash on seeds.

yes, or another sim can open a shop with all fruit and vegetables. then your sim can go there and buy them.

look for a park in the gallery with all the plants. With the latest patch you can upload and download so there should be a few. I put one up, but didnt test run it. I dont have the new ones from GTW in there yet though.

You can also use 'debug' cheat and then search for what you need in build/buy mode.

You can buy seed packages to obtain the ingredients or you can shop some of them a the City Living grocery stands.
