@Kobi_Meister prior to the 1st oct update we did not have ghosts, so if you had the summon option on the book then of course it would bring back a living sim.
I believe the Book Of Life should not have been available to us prior to the ghost patch OR the function was changed at the point of introducing ghosts. It does sound as if this is the case if Books you wrote before the patch no longer work. I have a number of Books of Life and they will all summon the ghost of a sim, but all my books were written since the update.
So prior to the ghost patch, Book of Life was working correctly for that game at that point in time, in that you could summon a dead sim with it who would be returned as a living sim.
Since the patch and the introduction of ghosts, Book of Life now performs in the manner in which it was supposed to by summoning ghosts, not living sims. Bringing the sim back to life is what Ambrosia is for.
