Is there a cure for sims unhappy with their homes?

I play vanilla and I have never encountered such an issue. Maybe it's something related to a mod? I think sims who love the outdoors might get uncomfortable moodlets if they don't leave the lot for a while and I think some sims may dislike some furniture styles but I can't think of any other instance where sims don't like their homes.

You can uncheck the "Build mode items grant gameplay effects" under gameplay options.

All sims, regardless of gender or traits. It may be another EA over-correction to player complaints. A major reason the installation it happens in is seldom played. The problem began at some point after DU came out, and suspect the ecology one.

Another thing to look at is if you added a decor like/dislike to their likes/dislikes. If you checked a decor style as one of their likes, your Sims will become very unhappy if they sense another type of decor item in the home. I finally went back into CAS and unchecked every Sims's decor preference because all they did was throw a fit over furniture and decor items and get an unhappy moodlet. And if Sims have the 'love being outdoors' as one of their traits, that little trait is triggering an unhappy moodlet faster these days. I've noticed a marked decrease in how much time it takes before they get that 'cooped up' moodlet. I had one Sim that took a fierce dislike to a toilet paper holder and had to delete it because he would drop everything in his queue just to go into the bathroom and pitch a hissy fit over a generic object that had been in his house for weeks. RL weeks, not Sim weeks. How odd is it when they don't care about what color things are but hate a simple object such as a toilet paper holder? But once I got rid of the decor preference, I was able to replace the toilet paper holder. It doesn't make much sense, does it?

What does that do? Not unchecking it but the Build mode thing.

If you have the Eco Lifestyle EP any item that runs on electricity or needs water, such as tubs, showers, sinks, etc, will impact your bills. Those items have a usage rating attached to them. The more you use those items, the higher your utility bill will be. Unchecking that will stop the game from applying the usage to the utilities portion of your weekly bills.

Have checked and that is not present under gameplay or any other tab in options. The closest I found was, in pack settings, Eco Lifestyle Enable Eco Footprint Gameplay: "If disabled, Neighborhood Action Plans and game objects will no longer affect the environment." This was unchecked and had no effect. The game in question is version 1.89.214.1030.

Not at all. But we are talking EA here. Reasonableness and moderation don't appear to be in their vocabulary. I ignore the likes and dislikes when making new sims and don't bother with it with older ones. Still, something to keep in mind, so thank you for info on what I didn't know existed.
