I always keep at least one museum in every save in case I want to complete the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration, which I do quite often, and to satisfy whims. I don't think you need one in each neighborhood though.
I have been trying to only put one of each commercial lot in a world. I don't need a gym etc in each neighborhood, It takes no longer to go from Oasis Springs gym in any other world as it does to a Gym in the neighborhood. So I pick a gym or other commercial lot that I love and that is the one I use. I delete all others.
Oasis Springs downtown now has:
Gym from Spa Day (which has a pool)
Hogan's burger joint (from Dine Out)
Desert Skies Mall (bakery, bookstore, clothing store) which I found on the Gallery with a different name
Perfect Balance Spa
Willow Creek:
Municipal Muses museum (which I've upgraded)
Sunny Side Diner (Dine Out)
Gallerie Moderne (purchase paintings)
Library (with telescope in back and basement rooms)
Newcrest (area surrounding the 50x40 lot):
Wedding venue from the Gallery
Cafe from the Gallery
Lost Gardens of Healing (Maxis lot)
Yoga Studio (from Spa Day)
Cafe Llama (Dine Out)
Only thing I've done in Windenburg is replace one of the cafes (the one near the waterfront) with the Diving Pelican restaurant because it fits the waterfront theme.
Magnolia Promenade is my entertainment district -- just added a restaurant (forget which one off the top of my head) to go along with my lounge, nightclub, and bar. With nightclubs being more geared to dancing post-GT, the lounge is a good place for my entertainers to hone their craft.- EmmaVane10 years agoSeasoned AceOther options include:
Natural History/Science Museum - Displays to include skeletons (human/cowplant), animal/nature dioramas, mineral and fossil collectibles, fish (live/mounted), frogs and insects along with every type of SimEarth plant in a greenhouse or botanical garden with a lab (kid chemistry sets, microscopes, analysers & any future science objects that anyone can use).
Space Centre - Displays space prints, model rockets, debug UFO, space rocks, geodes, alien collectables (live/dead), alien plants. With observatory(s) on the roof and rocket(s)/portal for public use. Could also add the spaceship jungle gym. You could combine with the above too.
Historical/Antique Museum - More museum than the gallery types in game. Add any old looking objects. Make a folly or overgrown ruins (maybe add the wishing well?) in the grounds with easels nearby for great paintings. Maybe make a ghost club that hangs out haunting the old things.
Local Celebrities - If you have any sims in that save die "famous" then add something of theirs to the museum as an exhibit (E.G. an opensided mock-up of a famous writer's study or the stage where your "rockstar" performed their last time). It's a nice reminder of past sims, and if the objects are accessible it adds things for sims to do when visiting.
I really wish we could customise the von Haunt signs to explain about each exhibit. Would be great for sharing on the gallery. "SimonSimpson;14928895" wrote:
My artist Sims always want to go there, but I can never get them inspired once I'm there.
Make them look at couple of pictures there and you will have inspired mood;))"IngeJones;14928878" wrote:
The science club idea sounds interesting!
I made a museum called Nights Watch Observatory. There is a house on a hill in windenburg that it sits up on nicely. In it is all the stuff a STEM sim could ask for, except I spaced the little wizard stations and didnt feel like reuploading it, so I just replaced one of the waygates in mine with two little wizard sets. So yeah a science museum stuffed with rocks, fish, frogs, gems, space junk, computers, books, space/microscope art, science stuff and of course an observatory on top - get after it!- I use the museum (a custom ore) to store my sims painting... I also bulldozed all the libraries, build one myself set up as a school and put in there some clubs classrooms.

@stilljustme2 Great, I like what you have done, I like that idea, we do not need the same type of lots in each neighborhood. Sounds nice what you have done.- I don't see a need for them but I do have one in one of my worlds
- Some whims your sims get depending on their traits ask to go there. Other than that and klepto sims and club hangouts, that's about it.

What would be great is if we could build an aquarium community lot that had those underwater glass tunnels you can walk through and see all the fish swimming above your head.
That would be awesome. I can imagine the pictures I could take! - ck21310 years agoLegendI never bothered with them much until we got the Get Together expansion pack.
I added a private club space to the museum for my art sims.
They spend their time viewing art, painting, and critiquing.
I am removing the museum's original art and replacing them with the art my Gestalt Order sim's paintings.
