Is this a good gaming desktop to run Sims 4?

Hi all,

So I want to purchase a desktop to run Sims 4 and other PC games exclusively. Is this computer any good? I'm new to the whole gaming PC world, so a rookie. I just want a decent gaming PC to run Sims on the highest settings, with lots of storage for Mods/CC.

Quick responses please. I'm nearly about to buy it as I want to play Sims 4 over the holidays (haven't played in months) and I don't want to clog up and overwork my Mac Laptop anymore playing sims, as I use it as my everyday PC.

  • Hello.

That computer fits the minimum requirements. However, if you would like to run the game and all of its DLC, you should consider buying a computer that meets the recommended requirements.

Further to this I would very strongly advise against ANY Intel CPU due to the Spectre worm problem they have with so called pre-emptive multitasking. Check ZDNet or similar tech security sites for more info on the problems ALL Intel CPU chips have.

I suggest AMD CPU and Nvidea combo is the safer and surprisingly, cheaper option.
  • Hello, I'm a new member so apologies for jumping on this discussion - I'm unable to create my own just yet. Similar to the original question I'm looking for a good laptop to run The Sims 4.

You'll be able to run TS4 on that rig. If you can afford a larger SSD drive, though, I'd recommend that you get the next step up -- about 500 gigs. (I hope that it comes with a larger secondary hard drive?) If you're a person who loves mods and custom content, they add up quickly. More memory would be useful for a mod lover as well. Otherwise, you seem good to go.

Good luck and happy holidays! :)

Expanding on Cynna post, I agree 256 GB by todays standards is kind of small and more than likely that drive would be used to house the OS as well and unless the drive is much larger than 256 I do not install huge programs that will eat up the space that Windows need to expand and if Windows can't expand it will cause an lot of headache. So I too hope there is an secondary drive and if not put one in as drives are cheap now and depending on the size of the SSDs certain sizes can be brought cheap. However, keep in mind when it comes to maintenance some of the maintenance tasks are not the same as traditional HDs such as defrag(Never defrag an SSD or do not constantly erase or rewrite to an SSD, as it shortens its life). One more thing Other than size SSDs do come in different flavors on the technical side and the technical side may be better than the other. I would read up on them to understand them.
  • Thank you both for your replies @Cynna and @Goldmoldar

It doesn't come with a secondary hard drive. I'm not someone who uses any mods or CC (though I do use most of the main packs).

I've found this Dell laptop which is a bit more pricey but looks like it could be better:

    What do you guys think?
  • I do not know the value of your money as I live in the US so someone that deals with your currency may know more about that. However, the laptop does have an bigger SSD but same as the desktop no secondary HD. The specs are nice but there are an few things about laptops they are not as upgradable as desktops. If this laptop has only one connection for the SSD and no secondary connection you may have to make an decision to keep the 1)Keep the SSD and limit the programs you install as Windows needs space to grow 2) Get an bigger SSD like an 1 TB and swap out the 512 GB 3)Get an big traditional 2.5 HD perferably 7200 RPM or higher. The desktop you first looked at more than likely have the space for an secondary drive whether it be an SSD or traditional HD. When investing in an laptop you must know there are limitations in upgradability and the type of laptop. I usually recommend Gaming laptops but they can be costly at times depending on what you want. If you are willing to wait save up an little more money and get what you really want. Also you can read up on Laptop vs Desktop and figure which one is best for you that is all I have and maybe someone can further assist you. :)
  • There are a lot of websites that show $600 or so builds. I took one's advice, modified a couple of things, and while it may not be the end all of gaming rigs, I play Fallout 4, Witcher 3, and the Sims on ultra settings with it. If you're unsure, you may just want to go by their recommendations (mine was great at answering my questions, too).
