A girl as a toddler is adopted by a wealthy family from Oasis Springs, who are unable to have children. Miraculously, however, they end up with another baby on the way. When he is born, he is named Hunter. Their mother is Mary Landgraab, identical twin sister of Nancy Landgraab, except for their clothes, makeup, and hairstyle. Her husband is Jacob Richards, who is rather unlikeable. He didn't want any kids, but he did have them for Mary, whom he genuinely loves. Hunter is also very rude and self-absorbed, and Mary is much to focused on cooking. However, one day, Maya (the adopted girl) asks her parents if they know where she is from. Turns out, she was born in the island nation of Sulani. She begs her parents to move there, and when she is a teenager they finally agree. While there, Mary is hit by a volcanic rock and is killed. This is when Jacob reveals his true nature. One night, Maya takes Hunter and runs away from home. Hunter resists and runs back home, where he tells his father about what Maya has done. Scared for her life now, Maya decides to take for a distant, uninhabited island. One the way however, she discovers a part of herself she had never seen before... a tail.
This storyline sounds interesting. What is Jacob's true nature? What does he do that causes Maya to run? Why did she take Hunter with her? Given his personality, I doubt he was very pleasant to grow up with.
