Its getting better

I’m glad it’s getting better for the family players. I just wish it would get better for builders, too. The lack of more tools has been a game breaker for me. :(

I agree, TS4's build mode is the worst in the series, for a 2014 game now in 2017. It's too stiff, it doesn't let you landscape, the flexibility of foundations, colouring, and house shaping is a disaster and there are not enough windows, doors, etc. The architecture styles are also not as extent as they should be there's only a handful of things to work with. I hope that these get back to how they were with TS5.

It’s got better if you’re prepared to spend hundreds of dollars/euros. Why simmers accept - let alone cheer - that is beyond me and a poor situation and development for all of those who don’t. Especially when you take into account it’s not even there yet.

It's three years later. If it's not 'there' yet then don't look for it to ever get there. The core was always the problem. Yes, it has some great fluff, if you can't say it's great right now, and you could play it the next ten years (like I played TS2) without anymore 'stuff' then it will never get there since it was the core that had the problem and not much has been done to correct all that.

Since then, we have new roofs and the ability to make some objects smaller. I was hoping that we would see more of the “list of build-related stuff” that he was talking about. If we are to see more build-related stuff added to the game, at this rate we will probably only see about 2 to 3 more build-related stuff added to the game before this iteration ends. EA/Maxis has no love for veteran builders. :(

If they had delayed this game and added toddlers at the beginning and Parenthood maybe the first GP then there would have been no need to wait and wait and wait (three years) to get this stuff, and possibly they could have helped out builders. It seems we all sit around waiting on stuff that never shows up. Devaint players have been waiting forever, too, I know, I'm one of them. Vampires was a good start since they can bite Sims on their own and can break in if you ever allow one into your house. But players complained who didn't even want them but bought it anyway now want them out...go figure. I think the core was the problem and if those basic things like proper aging and attitudes (toddlers) and terrain tools were in game from the beginning we all would have been a lot happier. It's too bad they didn't delay the game another year, because it would have been a lot better for everyone including them and they wouldn't have had to listen to me complain about all of it.

I agree @Cinebar that the core is the problem.

*sigh* This isn't even about open world. I loved S2 for the ability to create worlds and build too. No open world there. Glad to see your still around though. I should really post some pics of my new world in S3. I have so much fun playing in it and find it so smooth compared to anything Maxis ever made. :/ Then again, my builds were always so much better than anything Maxis ever made, even in S1. I'm not even trying to brag. I just happen to know what works an what doesn't because I play the fricken games. It's just a fact and why I started building in the first place. This is the real problem here. Now it's even worse because they took away the majority of the tools we needed to make things work properly.

It's not just about that either. It's about personality. Once the majority of us builders—I guess that's what we are?— was removed from the game entirely, there's no point at all to it. I can't fix it. I can't play in it without thinking this doesn't even work. Modders weren't the only people who fixed these games. There were issues across the board. There still are—moreso now because they removed an important element.

I am not a SimCity fan either and neither an open world fan because I need to be able to control my sims and make plans for their lives and not just in one family because I need to create a neighborhood story too. This isn’t possible in TS4 and never will be. Therefore I stopped playing it a long time ago. TS2 was the best Sims game for me.

I am also not a builder or a decorator. But if I were I would instead play games like Design Home and Covet Fashion from Crowdstar. So I also don’t really understand people who buy all the expensive stuff for TS4 just to build and decorate. TS4 is just too primitive anyway for such things IMO even though building and designing is easy because the game prevents from creating ugly sims and so on. I would just need more freedom to create what I wanted instead of all this “security” if I wanted to build or decorate.
