Okay so let me share this:I was really enjoying the Sims 4 when I decided to let the girl cheat on her husband. Sure, that would create some real "drama" which I am gladly and excitedly expecting (but not that too much though). I decided to let the girl woohoo some boy over there and let my boy sim walk in the bedroom. Guess what?The boy didn't get mad. Instead, he's standing there and just smiling. He decided to go to the bathroom like he didn't saw anything. So I tried another round: Let the girl flirt that boy over there. This time my boy sim got jealous. Their romantic bar decreased so much. But you know what? It's just that. He got mad, next time, he didn't care and she didn't care. They acted like nothing so much happened. But that boy over there got sad, which was realistic enough, but very disappointing.So I tried another round again: I invited that boy over there in my house and decided to add some family drama. Also, one thing that I really hate about the Sims 4 is that there's no "accidental" deaths. Like deaths that you didn't call for. Deaths in the Sims 4 are just like "Hey, I want this sim to die. So click this and that and die". Maxis, please listen to us: We really want something like "Hey, I don't want this sim to die. So click this and that and omg, my sim DIED!!! urgh"Also, I really love Toddlers. They're cute and adorable. But we also need some "dramas" and not just a happy-go-lucky thing. Please bring back fears, interests, interesting whims, and wants. We need some realistic (but not too realistic since supernaturals) gaming experience in Sims and I do hope all of you are listening to us. Sims 2 was the best for this. I remember playing Don Lothario and one day took him to a community lot to shop for clothes. One of his romantic interests spotted him and came over for a kiss. Little did he know, there were several of his romantic interests in the store that day!As soon as he kissed the first one, I got that loud 'boing' sort of noise and all the others ran over and were queued up to slap his face :D I could not stop laughing at that. Poor Don had a really bad time and there were a lot of broken relationships that day as they all dropped down into the red. Those ladies had a lot of stropping and shouting to do.Sims 3 has good reactions, but after an affair I have found my sims will get up the next day and chat over breakfast like nothing happened. Though, this depends on how low their relationship fell.Sims 2 was also better for deaths. I remember very often having pregnant sims get very near death, you really had to look after them well as they got so tired and hungry.

The reactions can be temperamental, like you've shown us. Usually there's a negative moodlet, but maybe the moodlet was buried under a whole heap of "nicely decorated" and "feeling great" happy moodlets? If so, then I recommend a mod that disables those moodlets. Makes the game much more interesting and I *do not* miss those excessive happy buffs one bit. I feel like reactions should function separately from moodlets.edit: just seen you've mentioned moodlets.I miss the more random events - especially with death. No accidental deaths in TS4? I didn't kill my sim by fire. The game did that. I didn't kill the landlord by electrocution either. Game did that one too. I did starve a few and purposely woohooed a few elders to get them to die with smiles on their faces. They do still have accidental deaths in the game though.

I have had a Sim at a party who had a boyfriend or girlfriend cheating upstairs. A Woohoo maybe or even some casual flirting. My Sim goes up and investigates and catches them. To cheat anonymously I will have to send the two cheaters to a completely different lot so they hope they don't get caught. I mean if you where a cheater wouldn't you do the same? Sims shouldn't be so foolish. When it works, it works fine and is quite entertaining, especially when the angry or sad emotions pop up. What needs to be improved is a balance of consistency and spontaneity to keep things interesting. The emotional buffs do the spontaneity with all the resulting interactions from them, but are not consistent as they can be repressed by happy buffs. Lingering feelings, like "fury" from TS2, would improve this too.

This is something I think a lot of people find bothering, the reactions are really different and mostly.. well happy. I remember in the Sims 2 I had a couple living in an apartment and another couple living next door to them. I wanted to do something different and I was really bored so I let the two husbands cheat on eachothers wives (the husbands were friends) but oh man the reactions were hilarious.

Wife 1 and Husband 2 were outside and the husband kissed Wife 1 but his friend Husband 1 came outside and became so mad but first at his wife which he slapped and then his friend who he yelled at and both were in a red bar. Wife 2 came outside to react on the fighting but HUSBAND 1 KISSED HER after the fighting so the whole thing started over again. Wife 1 kicked her husband out and lived alone with her child and Wife 2 kicked her husband out but asked to move in Husband 1 (which I did myself) and now everytime Wife 1 sees him and her together she gets angry and goes over to slap them. It is absoluty hilarious and it causes actual drama.

In the Sims 4, yes they slap them and get an angry or sad moodlet, but after a few hours it's gone and they're best friends again. No memories, no grudges no nothing. So it's a bit lacking in actual emotional reactions, I feel like Sims 2 showed more of that than the game that implied emotions were the big thing you know. So it really does need improving.

What I mean is that, I want drama, lots of it!

Your post reminded me of a thread I practically sat up reading all night in hysterics last week called An Obnoxious Psychosausage tests the boundaries of the Sims 4 emotions by @EmberDahl where he basically posts pics and stories of Mr Sausage who visits sims houses destroys objects and sets houses on fire all while sims stand around smiling its hilarious and I could not stop reading until I got to the end. As someone who started with 3 and had no idea really about other sims series emotions when I went to play 2 I was amazed at the emotions/realism and found I had to play a whole different way to what I had been used to doing before but I loved it so still play 2 quite a lot but am more careful now about conflict-)

I have not played 4 very much in the scheme of things but yesterday I had to spend quite some time resolving a husband's jealousy after seeing his wife flirt with another man while they were at the gym-) To be honest it was totally unexpected but made me realise emotions are there because they appear to work sometimes just not others so in that respect I agree with @cameronw209 in that they are not consistent or balanced properly.

Yeah, I had a story in my head where my Sim was going to be all depressed after his girlfriend dumped him. That did not happen. I had to keep using cheats to keep him depressed.
