Something you may want to consider: Old New Henford will already come with a "community garden" area that is just in an open area rather than a lot, and will probably function in many ways like the community lot/community garden, other than perhaps having other sims autonomously plant things. So given the limited number of lots in the world, if you don't want to give up one of your lots, you would still have that space. There may be other random planters scattered throughout the world; I definitely saw a couple of them next to the festival area.
I actually really like the community lots, including the community garden. I have several throughout all of my other worlds, and I was originally planning to add a community garden here, but I think given how many other things I want to do with the lots in this world, I'm now going to just use the community garden area that's already there.
There’s the community garden in Willow Creek but I’ve found it disappointing because we can’t plant or graft there. I hope they have improved the way this works with Cottage Living, but I don’t necessarily expect that they have.
I’ve also tried having a community garden on a lot of its own, and plants don’t really mature there and/or they revert back.
Sounds like Eco Lifestyle community spaces work differently.
