- Where I live, your name will change on marriage only if you fill out paperwork for it. I don't see why my Sims shouldn't have to make the choice deliberately too, and it's easy to do in CAS now.
- It's not an issue its part of the game eaxis forgot to tell us about for they were far more excited about EMOTIONS, PROMOTIONAL SIMS and MESSING UP SIMS LIVES as they made a fuss over what they felt was important. It isn't a glitch but I quite like it as my sims get a a frequent divorce. When they have a kid however, a little menu should come up asking "congrats. it's a (boy/girl)! What would you like to call it" then a little thing beneath it with two boxes first one is labelled first and has a random appropriate gender first name in which you can change, it has a dice next to it for full randomisation. The second one is labelled last or surname and contains one of the parents surnames (usually the mom) but this also has a randomisation dice. If you want to change a sim's surname, this can be done by entering Ctrl shift c then putting in the box: testingcheatsenabled true then entering in the same box after it: cas.fulleditmode then shift click the sim you want to change then click the option 'edit in cas' there it'll open the cas menu you used to create them.

The most recent patch made it so you don't need the cheat to change names anymore."luthienrising;13511806" wrote:

Really? is it a auto-change or a renaming?"mariana98g;13510280" wrote:
Well, in many other cultures, the wife doesn't take the husband's last name, for example, this isn't even a thing in Latin America. This has nothing to do with "being too modern" or "a feminist thing", but it is more of an international thing. I have to say that I love that female sims can keep their last names and that I can choose the last names of the kids because it gives you a lot of options! For example, I had Zoe Patel (from the Roomies household) marry a Spanish dude whose name is Pablo Beiroa. He had a kid whose name was Helena Beiroa, and later, Zoe and Pablo had two kids named Marco Patel Beiroa and Aída Patel Beiroa (I put her last name first, since she came first to the sims world). The three kids have different last names, but they don't care at all (Zoe is now stated as Helena's mother) and my five sims family is so happy!
Sorry for the long comment, hehe
Well, to be technical, in the Sims 3, the Sims when the got married didn't automatically take the husband's name. It was whomever initiated the wedding. But I liked the touch that you could change your name at city hall. Just a small thing, but I liked it."Dreamie209;13513347" wrote:

No - just that you don't need to use the cas.fulleditmode cheat. You can user regular CAS."luthienrising;13513378" wrote:

ooh...aww darn :'( . owells.- I personally am really glad that it doesn't automatically change their last name. More and more women are choosing to not change their last name, and I'm happy that it's reflected in here. (even though I'm pretty sure that the decision had to do more with laziness than making a social statement. )

I'm not convinced it's either laziness *or* a social statement. Where in the world is still even the case that your name automatically changes on marriage anyway? If you have to make a deliberate act of name changing in real life, I don't see why it should be automatically imposed in the game. Sure, it would be nice to have a computer interaction "Fill out name-change forms" -- it would be more real-life-like -- but even having to open CAS to change a name is better than a game-imposed name change that doesn't happen in real life."luthienrising;13513482" wrote:

Yeah, I agree with that. Forcing a name change would just seem kinda controlling and unrealistic IMO.
