Legacy Houses!

With the infant update & expansion pack coming out in 2 weeks, I’ve been thinking about trying the legacy challenge again. My question for you guys is, do you typically try to build a new house every gen, or do you just keep re-building & adding on as you go? I’m not sure what I want to do! Lol.

It is fun! If you ever want to try it, here are the rules

I think it all depends on the Legacy Challenge you're playing. I only play Pinstar's Legacy Challenge. It has rules, one of which is the heir must stay on the lot, you can't move the family out or move them to another town. If you move your Heir off the lot, then they can no longer be the heir. It's a challenge for a reason. ;) I generally have an idea of what size house I'm going for at the start. It may take some time before my Founder has it completed, but that's only because I go for large to accommodate a large family.

Unless your legacy demands the entire family stays on the lot, I would just move out the spares after you've chosen your heir. With Pinstar's the heir has to be a YA before they are the actual Heir. Generally, since we have to play on normal length, the Founder dies off by then. Sometimes redecorating is called for. New paint/wallpaper, new floors. Maybe new furniture, as it can be afforded. Like I said, it all depends on the rules of the Legacy you're going to play.

Haha, that is true about it being a challenge! :p I’m going to have to think about which one I want to play, or maybe I’ll try several once the infant update comes out since I am more motivated now, lol! :D Thanks for the info!

My sim self has lived in the same house since he moved to Newcrest in 1980. The shape of the house has remained the same, inside it's had a few make overs and as of 1993, he completely remodelled the house inside.

My sim self's original lounge room and kitchen in Spring 1980:

Re-decorated in 1984 after his children Beatrix and Carlin moved out:

Carlin moved back in briefly after graduating university while he was waiting for his own place to complete construction.

In 1989, my sim self moved away for a year after divorcing his first wife Liberty and let his third youngest daughter Beatrix and her partner grant take over the house.

The kitchen got repainted in 1991 by my sim self's second wife:

By 1993 my sim self was divorced a second time and using the money she paid him back which was embezzled out of the family business by her father, my sim self did a complete renovation:

The house was originally highly elevated:

However in 1982, Beatrix slipped down the front stairs breaking her ankle. Her mother Liberty, ordered the house be elevated to lower level so there are less stairs to climb:

  • I keep my heirs in their ancestral home, quite often in their childhood bedroom! However, I may need to rethink things for my aging off saves, as there will be 3 generations (possibly) of heirs living in the same house. Might need to use a retirement home or something. I also play all my playable sims, rotation style. So the family just grows and grows lol.
  • Aww, I love seeing pictures of your guys legacy houses! @Brd709 & @jus1nickie, yours look great! :)

A retirement home would be cute, lol! I’m currently working on a rotational save, too, & am already wondering how I’m going to handle it once the family grows, lol.

    That's cool. How's yours going?

I use the same house for mine, but add to it, like with new modern technology or new hedge designs which gives it a changing with the times feel to it ?
In my game my Sims' family has been living on the ground of an old church for over 5 families generations. It's slowly but surely being restyled but the original families presence remains.

It’s going well, thanks! I have a house & a husband, lol, so now I’m just trying to make some money so they can afford all of the cute new infant items when they have a baby. ;) :p That is awesome that you’re 5 generations in!

I keep the original house but rebuild some parts/add on to the house as i go
My sim family i'm using for my Legacy save currently has 6 kids....with another one on the way- (I use mods- More specifically MCCC. I could have 9999 sims in a household if i wanted. not going to though but imagine having that many babies/toddlers/children 0.0)

Oh, man. I feel like 999 sims in a household would be impossible without cheats, LOL!

  • It really depends on the legacy challenge I'm playing. I'm doing Not So Berry and I make my Sims change houses per generation (maybe move multiple times depending on generation rules).

But I did the original legacy challenge too w/scoring where you're supposed to stay in the same house the entire 10 generations. I built my own house and I think I stayed in it for 5 or 6 generations and then decided to move for the remainder of the challenge.

I'm one of those players that gets bored pretty easily. So unless I have some attachment to a house, I typically like to move per generation.
  • I am only on the second gen of my legacy save, but she has moved out of the house and I imagine all my heirs will at latest by the time they have a serious partner. That's just my preference though. :)
  • I'm on gen 6? (I call it gen 5 most of the time because I think of the founders as gen 0). I don't cheat, but I also don't follow challenge rules. I find them stifling and like for my Sims to move around and do things freely. I mentioned before that my Sims move every so often.

This is the fourth house they've lived in, but I've built six houses for them in total (some of them are secondary homes), so I guess it works out to one home built per generation. My legacy Sims aren't modest and their home reflects that. It's been fun for me to try a more extravagant playstyle.

I use a lot of the family's photos as decorations throughout the house.

As an idea, I think it could be fun to experiment with different styles of homes every so often (like trying a tiny home, a beach home, a palace, etc.) but it would depend on the family's funds.
