Likes and dislikes

I'm running into the issue that I have several sims who have an energetic lifestyle because I had them exercise as teens for scouts or swim for fun. Now they hate fitness, but they never get a negative buff for doing fitness, just the positive for being active. I'm wondering if lifestyles trump likes and dislikes. I can have some that like likes dancing a lot, and therefore become energetic, but hate fitness. I also am annoyed that swimming is considered working out. I feel like swimming should have been its own hobby like yoga is. Yoga doesn't trigger a fitness dislike.

This sounds more like a mod issue. Try doing the usual checks and cleaning. ;)

Um...I actually don't have that issue. The only thing I find annoying is when they want to randomly go and like a piece of furniture in the middle of the night or something.

This does not happen to me if they're asleep. But in one of my let's plays I do have a sim who will stop whatever I ask her to do and go into the laundry room, stand there, voice her opinion and then I have to get back to the let's play. And in the current game I'm playing my sim has a chair in his walk in closet he loves. No matter what he's doing, swimming in the ocean, working on his chicken coop, he stops and goes all the way upstairs, into the closet to tell me what he thinks.

I haven’t noticed my sims stopping doing anything they dislike that I have ordered them to do. I don’t tend to make them do things they dislike that often though as it usually makes them unhappy. I actually really like the preferences system, it adds to my sims personalities. I have a mod that assigns them random likes and dislikes as I play without the annoying popup asking me if I want to allow them to like or dislike something. That has improved the whole system for me by a lot. I wish we could get more options like favourite food and drinks.

Hm maybe it was in an update? I don't have the (now 2) most recent update(s) and I've always had the problem of my sims autonomously doing activities that they don't like and getting mad about it. Especially dancing. Sims are always dancing...

I don't think it's a great idea for sims to cancel out actions you specifically gave to them if they don't like it. In that case if a sim hates cooking they'll never eat. BUT I always wanted likes/dislikes to have an effect on autonomy. Currently, they do not, and it's probably my biggest problem/disappointment with them. Like a lot of things in this game, they just act as flavor text...

The constant popups are also annoying, and I'm still getting them for non-household sims as well. At least it stopped for the walk-by NPCs. But I still get it for friends my sim has visiting...

We also still need more categories like food/drink, and more activities included. I want to see GT clubs level of activity options for likes/dislikes. Kids also need more activities specifically. Why can't my artsy kids like anything art related? No painting no craft table nothing. It's frustrating.

Likes/dislikes can be an amazing system if they put the time and effort into it. They said they were going to keep updating it but I haven't heard anything about that since we got that initial patch ?

I hope this is just a mod conflict or bug, but because as you said, OP, simply refusing something because of a dislike isn't always possible in real life. I have a strong dislike for cleaning, but despite this my actual cleaning skill is above average.

So far I have had only positive experiences with dislikes. When my sims were on a mountain excursion once, I had one sim who actively disliked climbing. He had learned it from books, thinking "it may not be as bad as I think", but then it really was as bad as he'd thought. He managed one climb with the tense moodlet dominating, during the other two he was Very Focused from heavy talking to by his friends (cheer up, compliment and the focus interaction from wellness skill) and eating emotion berries. His fun bar was depleted in the end, but he had conquered that mountain!

Another time my cooking enthusiast fell ill just when a large batch of canning had to be done. Three other sims hated cooking, but it had to be done. So they took turns doing the hated work. Meanwhile a fourth sim was neutral towards canning/cooking and worked all the time... but he also broke the stove.

Heh. I find a lot of schadenfreude by making a gym club for lazy only Sims, setting them all to dislike Fitness and then let the game summon them to every gym I go to...

Could you link that mod? It sounds very helpful.
