Little buisiness and hobbies - a bit disappointed

"I was looking forward to one day being able to have my Sims live above their business, and I hoped that the Small Business pack would allow me to do so. But I notice that in order for a business to really work,I have to offer different activities  For example, if I have a jewelry store, I need to offer courses and workshops. Then the Sims will be interested in the activities but will almost never buy anything. The same goes if I have a bakery, or a catering service, or if I'm selling other items. If I don't have any other planned activities besides just looking and buying items, the Sims come in, barely look around, and then leave without buying anything.

I also notice that if Sims own a gym, a spa, or any other community lot, far fewer people visit than if the lot were not a small business. Clubs cannot have a gatherin. As for bars, you can no longer eat anything other than chips. All other dishes have disappeared.

I would be very interested to know how it works in your game."

The restocking feature depends on the type of lot you use to sell items. The get to work retail shelves work fine but they function the same as the businesses and hobbies shelves, no restock items as long as you use them in a small business

  • Businesses and hobbies is a nice pack but has some flaws.

The biggest flaw for my gameplay is the lack of off the grid compatibility. The ticket kiosk and the pottery require electricity. Finally historical interested simmers get pottery, one of the oldest inventions off mankind, only to find out it is impossible to combine with historical gameplay.

Apart from this little rent, the business side of businesses and hobbies has it flaws. It is not meant as a replacement for retail stores nor as a way to replace every community lot. It is it's own thing. It's great to earn a bit of money for the active family. The limitations of the selling surfaces and no restocking are serious downsides. I have a feeling these limitations were implemented intentionally to make sure people still want to buy get to work for retail lots. The fact that every lot needs to be actively owned is another big flaw. We can't set up a small business without an owner like we can do for retail stores and restaurants. I really wish we could. It is great if you want to run a small side hustle from your home lot, but that's it.

  • elliebreton. Nordhaven World, Objects, Build Modes & CAS within the Business & Hobbies Pack keep freezing up & crashing.  With all my other packs there's not the same glitches.  So, I have to avoid using & playing any of it from this Pack until it's finally fixed.

rujuta4me my advice was for the candy but I am still using the sweetest treat display case for them. They have no spoil times on them in any of my small businesses but they did without the Fresh Chef trait. I haven't tried other food but will take a look at that today. I'm on Xbox Series X so no mods.

Update: it's only items from the Grace Under Pressure Cooker from For Rent for me and it looks as if that's not to do with B&H but to do with the fact that the Fresh Chef trait doesn't apply to Pressure Cooker food in the same way it doesn't apply to food from the Hot Pot from Snowy Escape. Any food from those 2 gadgets will spoil even with that trait. I tested the other gadgets in my game (with all packs) and all the others were covered by the trait and the food didn't have a spoil time on them.

This was reported as a bug on AHQ and was archived when AHQ posts were transferred over the new forum.

Awww, I'm sorry those things are happening for you. It's upsetting to have paid for something and not be able to use it. And annoying too.

GameGirl2168a  it's actually a pressure cooker - I 'paid attention' to the exact name.  It was the first time I used it, Fully upgraded. it does look loke a rice cooker or even a crock pot style appliance.  I do like having more varieties with the dishes!

as for 'restock masters' go, I have noticed that some collection items do not allow you to "restock" them.  Like the Bird feathers which become pictures on the wall, when you get the whole collection, combine them, the Blue owl that they make cannot be restocked either - in my game.  wonder if the option was left out by design?   ......  IF B&H shelves/walls, I assume are specific to B&H.  If you remember in the future, after you have tried using other shelving, please share what you discover.   The shelving I actually love is the peg board from ?computer/gamer? kit.  I love the options of wall placement, colors; able to  place so many different objects on them; I use them a lot in the flea market I am still building.  (no cheating 😉 😁).  I did grow money trees tho!! 🤑

Best wishes for your sim and her fiancee'!

  • This isn't a retail focused pack, so the retail doesn't work super well standalone until your store rating is higher. Before that they'll only buy if they're having a good experience at the store. The sales are meant to be more of a "memorabilia of the experience" sort of thing than outright just selling stuff. But if your store is 2+ stars I find Sims buy stuff all the time no problem. I've run several retail-only stores and Sims will gladly pop in and buy stuff- to the point where I made a mod to limit sales to one-per-customer since I was making way, way too much money off sims buying several pieces of jewelry in one visit.
