Welllll.... On the 'stuff' load concern.... @Lizzychicago @Charlotta11 ... You both make excellent points!
I would love to see many of the features be optional activations so they don't blow up computers that can't handle them. I have a powerful computer currently but in the past played Sims 2 on a computer that was pretty maxed out by the game. I feel their pain, but I wish there were more (and clearer for non-techie users) options to 'enable or disable' in the options area that clearly state whether they will slow the computer.
I'm not referring to 'core-need-to-run settings', but things like tutorials and many other features. For instance, for my gameplay style, though I own Seasons EP and 'Get Together', I generally find the calendar, festivals and clubs annoying to deal with. If I had a maxed out computer, if I could de-activate those features unless I wanted to use them, this would free up run space.
If we had a pretty thorough listing in options of things we could activate and maybe even a notation about the size/speed gained by de-activating, this may be a better option than cutting back on large and more usable lots for building and some other potential features that are tabled for size/speed reasons. Some of these types of features would take less coding space, time, and complexity, I would assume, than some of the 'new features' (like extensive tutorials) make me wince a bit at since I assume they are trade-offs for alternative options or expansions, plus they use more run/memory space on my game. Also, when adding this type of feature, couldn't the default setting be to 'un-tick' (deactivate) the feature so that people consciously choose it with space in mind?
Even though my computer can handle the game and expansions, it still makes some signs of protest and exertion at times that make me wish I could deactivate some things I don't use just for efficiency and to decrease wear on my computer.
I understand that it is not all about me or what is most appealing to others like me, and the 'greater good' is most important, but I was just wondering if something like this option idea would help if used for more features, as it is obviously used for a number of features already. Just a thought. :)
