Maid Trouble

Luna decided to hire a maid after the birth of her son, Cedric. But, in my opinion, I think he's useless because he doesn't really clean up anything and he charges $160 per visit! Cedric requires a lot of attention and Luna works so only Neville is at home. So looking after Cedric, doing the laundry, washing the dishes etc is hard. The house ends up dirty so my Sims end up with "Uncomfortable" moodlets. Does anyone else think maids are useless, and should I hire a nanny?
  • Another thing to keep in mind, is that some maids are intended to be bad, it's part of the coding. You can fire them, and hire a new one. That one might be better. I've usually had good results from the staff I've hired.

I've never hired a maid in TS4. I always have a handy sim in every house, and make everything self-cleaning if the option is there. I've yet to hire a butler.

Nannies, though, are a different thing. The one time I had one, kind of put me off the idea. All she did was watch TV and dance to the stereo. Found out she was a Dance Machine, go figure. I ended up actually moving her in, like she was the childrens grandmother. Worked out pretty well. Especially since I found Daycare to be worse, with never taking care of the little ones needs.

Same for me on both counts, I've never had the need to hire either; in addition I've never had to hire a nanny either.

You didn’t say what exactly the maid is doing wrong.

    He's not cleaning up anything.
  • Nannies are not only useless, they are actively a damage since they like to cook group meals for no reason an leave them to spoil, they also can't really leave kids alone, always interrupting whatever they are doing, this on top of the same things the maid is useless for. Don't make me start on butlers.
  • My maids are usually ok. I think it may be random how well or badly they do. I've had some that are great and some that are horrible. With the horrible ones, I've canceled the maid service and called to get it back. When they sent a new maid out, they were usually better. I don't bother with nannies though unless my children are toddlers who are already potty trained and I make sure there is food made in the fridge. The toddlers will stay home with the nanny, take care of themselves (I drag the dinner out of the fridge for them so they can feed themselves) and they can continue to learn and skill up as the parents work.
  • I've had good and bad maids.
Usually by the time I need help (for toddlers and young kids) I get a nanny and butler. I have the toddlers ask them to play with them, teach them things ect. Usually their parent's just socialize with the toddlers. One of them (butler or nanny) usually cooks autonomously and if they don't I ask the butler to do it for awhile. I'll go behind them and store a few cooked dishes in the fridge. I praise them if they are doing a good job and they tend to do even better as time goes on. It usually works out fine. If not I fire them or go in and change traits... now and then I get a dud. Also sometimes I have to rearrange the house some.. especially those I've downloaded. My sims seem to get stuck or don't path as well in some big downloaded houses.
  • I don't use maids - they never clean the one thing that needs cleaning, and they always have a snack at the end of the day, then clock off leaving the dirty dish on the table. The one time I hired a nanny, he was obsessed with cooking (I dragged a lot of food to the trash can). He was also more interested in reading my Sims' books than in looking after the toddler. She had to beg him to bathe her, and then do it again because the action kept getting cancelled. Worthless! I had much better results when I sent a toddler to day care.

  • In my experience, most of my sims' maids are lazy. LOL I guess I'll fire and rehire; maybe that will work.

In Sims3, the butlers just drank and read books. Sims 2, the butler would do it all, clean the house, cook, tend to the garden.....etc
