Mean Interactions

I started a new game, haven't played in awhile. The Sims who came for the welcoming wagon immediately took a dislike of my Sim, I thought. They started yelling and calling her names, making her feel insecure. I played that game for a few days. Started a new one today and my Sim had the idea to start randomly yelling at the people who came to welcome her to the neighborhood. Not sure when this started, but I am not liking this addition. In my last game my Sim really didn't have any friends because everyone who initiated a conversation, ended up insulting her.

What was the reason for this change? Can you please change it back? Even the Sims with the "good" trait insult my Sim with no provocation. It may be better if I had an inkling on what the insult pertained to.

  • I ended up adopting a cat to keep my Sims social up without being insulted at every turn.
  • It's a bug. Please hit "me too" here if you have a chance

  • It looks like a few modders managed to discover what's probably causing the issue.

The game constantly checks for requirements to allow things like certain interactions, one of those requirements are for sims to be able to do mean interactions, this is done through tests. When they added the loyal trait they added a test set which unfortunately included a test for Snowy Escape.

If you don't have Snowy Escape, the test will be empty, allowing all sims to be mean autonomously. This is most likely what has caused all sims to be mean all the time.

Reading about this bug has gotten me even more convinced that keeping a game like The Sims 4 going for so long must be really tough for the programmers.

You can read more about the bug over at Answer HQ.
  • I’ve been trying to find a way to identify the bug on the console so I can share some insights into it.

I haven’t seen anything everyone is reporting, but I have Snowy Escape. That would explain why it hasn’t happened in my game.

From what I’ve seen, the game has a number of bugs, but they are pretty good at fixing them once they know about them.

While it might be a challenge to fix the bugs, I absolutely think it is worth it.

There is a lot to be gained from revamping and refreshing games. I think of No Man’s Sky as a good case and point. The launch of that game failed to meet a lot of people’s expectations, but after giving it some much needed attention, the game has turned out really awesome!

Even if it isn’t easy, I definitely appreciate all the hard-work that goes into fixing bugs. I think the overall benefit makes it worth it.

Do you have the Tiny Homes Stuff Pack? I wonder if it’s possible to counter the negativity in other ways. I started using a micro home in my game because it helps remove the tension between sims. It’s a buff from the residential lot type.
  • Ohhh, I understand why I haven’t really had the bug. I have Snowy Escape! Is it true then, the bug affects those who don’t have SE?

Having said that, I bet there are a number of Simmers who do have Snowy Escape and are experiencing the bug :D
  • I scrolled through a bunch of pages of the bug report thread (It's 78 pages and counting!) and so far, of those people who bothered to report what packs they have, no one has Snowy Escape!
Hopefully now it has been tracked down they can fix it soon.

I do not have Tiny Homes Stuff Pack or Snowy Escape.
