No, no sims have died. And the name on the description of the certificate is the name of the sim whose inventory I found it in.

A career reward?

I got mine while doing a "sit in on Class" interaction through my phone for a Class in DJ Mixing

I hope this glitch gets fixed soon. I assume these “Specialist Certificates” are meant to be given for more skills than just Mixology, after taking several classes for a skill. It would be a pretty cool feature if it worked correctly.

The patch won't delete the degrees, it only prevents new ones from being generated. Draw a wall in build mode (or a room) and hang the diplomas on the wall. Delete the wall/room.

Slightly off-topic, but perhaps useful to some: A thing I noticed late is that in order to get the mixologist certificate, the sim in question doesn't have to attend university. I expected the requirements to be a) mixo certificate and b) finished degree, but it turned out that just the certificate is required to snag all the career benefits. My poor aspirering bartender sim never wanted to go to uni in the first place and I released him after the first semester.

I just got this certificate and was wondering why. My Sims has only ever gone to Research & Debate skills classes and has never enrolled in college, nor made a drink in his whole life. lol.

No sense, but probably some correlation. LOL.

This isn't cheating, but since it feels that way to you, there's a very easy solution. Just don't use the certificate. Don't hang the certificate on the wall and don't choose Mixologist when your sim Finds A Job. If you want your sim to be a Mixologist, start with the Culinary career and work your way up to the point where you can choose a branch. Nobody is affected but you.

What feels like cheating to me is when the developers take something away that my sim has already earned, as they did with the Never Weary reward. I had several sims who had already bought Never Weary or were saving reward points to purchase it, so I felt very cheated when it was nerfed. I would feel the same way if the Mixology Specialist Certificate was suddenly taken away or changed, after my sims had put time and money into some or all of the classes needed for it.

I still think it's a good thing that sims are not prevented from earning the Mixology Specialist Certificate by having too much Mixology skill. It also makes sense to me that a professional mixologist should be able to talk knowledgeably about many things, so I have no problem with a mixologist learning other skills. I'm sorry that you disagree, but I doubt that I'll change your mind, and I don't think you'll change my mine.
