Mixology + Juice fizzing + Nectar making

I prefer having three different skills. Not all my sims complete them all.

If you learn nectar making, you will obviously know something about Mixology as well. If you know Mixology, you will know some about nectars, too. Guess the same for Juice fizzing. Maybe the Mixology could be the basic of all (like Cooking is for Gourmet cooking) and nectar/juice could be the specializing? I just think it's a tad much having 3 skills about bottle-stuff :)

Not sure yet how nectar making is handled, perhaps they are linked in some way?

I have to hard disagree on this one. Just because I know how to make a Cape Cod does not mean I know how to create and finely age a nice Shiraz, and experience with making homebrew kombucha wouldn't help me much with either of those skills.

I’m fine with juice fizzing been separate from mixology but I’m unsure about nectar making. We can currently pour some nectar from the Mixology skill. At the same time I don’t know that I want a bunch of different nectars to overwhelm the mixology drink list.

Well mixology is like learning how to mix drinks for already made bottles of juice (aka alcohol, like Rum, Vodka, Tequila….. learning to make mixed drinks in other words ). Juicing fizzing I feel simulates making another type of drink (aka processing beer, or processing bottled wine coolers, etc. ). Nectar making simulates making bottles of wine, thus being able to let it age for a higher price. Mixology, Juice fizzing, and nectar Making are 3 very different processes, thus, I think they should be their own skill.

I agree with @Amapola76, those three skills are not entirely related. A real person or a sim could possess one, or even two of those skills and not have all three. I see your point, and there is validity to it, but it's more likely that your aptitude in one of those skills will be far ahead of the other two, and interest in one doesn't always mean interest in the other two. Someone who knows how to make a perfect Merlot or Pinot Noir may not care to know how to make a mixed drink. They may prefer to make and drink nothing but wine/nectar.

Exactly. Now, I mean, I could see something like getting a boost to the first level of one of those skills if you've already maxed out one of the other skills. That would make sense to me. But I wouldn't want to see them all lumped in together as being exactly the same.

I like having more specified skills, it makes it easier to show a sim's specific interests. Like my classy sim would never mix his own drinks or fizz juice, but is an expert in fine nectars.

Lol, fine, I'm alone :) I realize these skills are also about lifestyle and that nectar making might even be a bit more classy than the other two. I just find it very detailed with 3 skills regarding related subjects, while say Fitness skill is common whether you swim, run, play basketball, football, kickboxing or whatever we can do with that skill. I'd say that swimming and kickboxing is way less related than mixology and nectar making :)

@Simmerville I think you have brought up an interesting point. How detailed do you have to go with skills? I still remember the sims 2 where we only had 7 skills (and a few talent badges with later packs). Activities were sorted into one of these categories. Another good example of splitting skills are musical instruments. In sims 1 and 2 they were all lumped together under creativity alongside with painting. Now in the sims 4 every instrument type has it's own skill. The question is how detailed does the game have to be? The amount of skills to be learned is growing overwhelmingly long. On the other hand it is realistic that someone who can play piano, can't automatically play violin. Sims 4 clearly has chosen for differentiation and a large amount of separate skills. To be consistent with this choice it makes sense for mixology and nectar making to be their own thing. I know people in real life who make their own wine and other people who mix drinks at parties. These are two completely different skills. Nectar making and juice fizzing are more related but since they come in two separate EP they have to be separate skills.

I think the issue is with the name of the skill. You can definitely gain and maintain fitness if you practice a sport, any sport, while bar tending and making nectar are different skills even though they both deal with bottles, and you can gain those skills only by practicing those particular activities. I prefer the different and separate skills, it's more realistic and gives sims more personality.
