Moving out only part of a family

I have noticed that you can't move out JUST one or two members of a household while in play mode. You can only move the entire household. To break the household apart you have to go into "manage household" mode. I miss the days of moving out one or two and having the rest of the sims come and wave goodbye while the ones you have selected to move go on their merry way. I liked with how in part 3 you could also pick a new house to move them in and you could decide which of the two would become your active household.

  • Yeah, I miss this too. I recently had my teen legacy heir move out of his parents house and doing it through manage household made it feel so sudden- there was no transition, which I think really adds to storytelling.

Agreed. The storytelling aspect of the Sims has been largely gutted for The Sims 4, it seems. Nothing feels like it really means anything anymore. When sims get married, their family portraits don't change. The married sims don't pair up in an embrace like in Sims 2 and 3. There is no special relationship icon for love interest, boyfriend/girlfriend, fiance/fiancee or spouse sims either. Its just two generic, colorless hearts no matter what the romantic connection. Girlfriend, Mistress, wife...its all the same. No special icon for family relations either. I don't understand why this is the case. Its very annoying.
  • I know! And you can't move anyone to an empty lot either... you have to merge with another household. I don't know why they got rid of basic features like this one for no reason.

Agreed, its almost like they're TRYING to annoy us.
  • What annoys me the most about it is that you can't choose how much money will come with the new household and how much will stay with the old one.
  • And to make it worse you can't just move them into a empty lot or anything using manage households. You have to shack them up with some random stranger sim THEN figure out what to do with the random sim. Anyone know of a mod that makes it a little bit easier?

    Totally agree on this :)
  • This game does have a few fun aspects but the annoyances and disappointments outweigh those for me at this point. This and no couple dancing being the biggest bugaboos for me at the moment. And this may be old fashioned, but I miss the names changing with marriage. Because of the lack of discernible relationship icons and the fact that the family portraits don't change to have married sims wrapping their arms around each other, etc, name changes at the very least would be nice. I always go into CAS and do it manually, but its annoying to have to do that.

You can move them into an empty lot through Manage Households. When choosing to merge, you can add a new household and move the sims that you want to move out in to the empty household. They will be given the default household funds and you can move them into an empty lot. This feature has always been in the base game (not sure if it is from launch or patched in but it's been there since I started playing).

What annoys me is you can't separate household funds. Like if the parents are rich, they can't directly give their children money to move out, so I can only use money cheats.
