It’s frequency was also determined by interactions with aliens either through direct contact or on the computer. But again players refused to utilize the gameplay options to remove a paid feature from their own games and instead had it nerfed for everyone else.
I feel like it still varies from person to person/save to save, because I've experienced it a handful of times but not enough for it become a complaint. - Daephene16 years agoNew SpectatorIf your alien abductions are too rare for you, have a sim use the observatory a lot. My Munch family has and uses one and most of my abductions have been in that household, or whoever I rotate to next. I also have a household with a townie alien, but after a few weeks of playing him he stopped being abducted and doesn't seem to increase anyone else's chances anymore either.
You can also trigger vampire break-ins by having a family member research vampire lore. This one appears to be household specific, as it occurred in the rotation after the one doing the research moved out, but the vampire still broke in and drank from her sister twice.
Aliens did need a method of prevention that was easier to access than the satellite. Honestly I think the method of avoiding each occult type should be something you can do without cheats from day one of buying the pack, not something you have to earn by using the pack's other features. And then you should be expected to use it if you don't want that occult, rather than expecting them to be nerfed for everyone. An actual toggle would be better, and I do not understand why in game actions that trigger or prevent things are easier to program than toggles.
But as for Murphy beds, there's an obvious way to avoid the deaths which is not to buy the bed. If you choose to use the object, you're taking the risk. They don't actually take up less room than the traditional beds, so you can use all the other features of the pack without that specific object, so it's not at all like buying a pack because you want your sim to own a store and you get aliens because you didn't play a scientist instead. . If the complaints get too bad, they could patch in a version without the chance of death instead of nerfing it. - AedanStarfang6 years agoNew SpectatorMy writer sim who is not a scientist and not related to or lives with any aliens or scientists was just abducted, so I'd say it's working more or less intended at least on my end.
- You know how it is, people buy the packs meant for that specific gameplay then come running to ea huffin n puffin about how the said feature is ruining their game and they want it toned down aka gone/nerfed. Then the next thing you know, the feature you wanted/bought is patched out the game. I give it two weeks before there's an official patch for it, the pack hasn't been out that long there's already mod to get rid of the murphy bed death. Happened with aliens, vampires and now they gonna come for the beds.

? dropped. - ldm26 years agoNew SpectatorI don't think it's fun to see the sims I've spent time & effort creating & developing get killed, especially not the moment we place one of those deathtraps in their home. Those things are out of my game until they do tone it down.
- paigeisin56 years agoNew SpectatorWhy take it out now? Just leave it alone, for crying out loud. There are mods that eliminate the deaths, along with upgrades one can do that make the bed unbreakable. I knew the Murphy bed would be a hassle to deal with before I bought the pack because of the way these kinds of features are often given a high probability of happening, and I knew it would happen a lot with that bed. The devs just don't know how to tone down these things. Many players are very happy with the Murphy bed, it was hyped as a new way to kill Sims, and it isn't fair to the players who use this in their stories, or to the players who like the ghosts in their games. It's just a new bed, there are mods to use if one doesn't want to deal with random deaths, so leave it as it is. And don't forget how things often get messed up whenever the teams start playing around with stuff after it's already in the game. On top of all of that, the Murphy bed doesn't fit very well into the concept of living in a tiny house. Give one of your Sims a high level of handiness skill, upgrade the bed then use it, is what I recommend. The Murphy bed is not what this pack is about. It is just one small feature that can easily be controlled. And it is up to each one of us to decide the best way to use it in our games.

If enough people complain, which I'm sure already have, they'll patch it. Otherwise modders will. ;)

I do believe that this is the way to handle it. Don't just remove the percentages for death from the game. Some players like/need the sensation of doom for their Sims. I loved Sims2 for that very reason, myself. And I have to say I was totally bummed out to learn that starting with Sims3, random deaths were increasingly difficult to come by. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not the type to go out and plot a Sims' death. I take very good care of my Simmies, but life at times itself is random. You can lose someone you know, or even a family member when you least expect it. Trust me, I have lived long enough to experience this grief first-hand. So, I would much rather these kinds of 'problems' be solved via a mod, so that those who still wish to live under the fear, if you will, that something catastrophic could occur in your game that shakes things up. Don't deprive those who long for such uncertainty. It can actually spice up the game a bit. - JanuaryGarnet086 years agoNew Spectator

You can have your sim upgrade the bed. Ninja said an upgraded bed is very unlikely to kill, and that is my point. They give ways in game to prevent these things if you wish, but rather than utilize that option you would rather take it away from everybody. It’s wrong, - Maybe the devs should introduce a tick box for “Random deaths”. So that those that want to play house can play in their utopia and those that want danger in their game can live happy with a risk of random deaths.
