I know that there are many players who don't want it to be and just want to play stories or dollhouse (and I don't mean that in a derogatory way, truly!) but it's actually sensible to keep including items or gameplay that has some kind of challenge because it's true to the roots of the series. In this case, oddly enough, it comes in the form of a bed. Murphy beds have always had a death chance, since Sims 2. In this version, the default Murphy bed is a 1 rating, which means it's the worst possible bed you can have. This includes a greater chance of it killing the Sim who uses it. As a gameplay object, the expectation is that you buy this high-risk bed with the assumption that it will be worked on to upgrade it until it is satisfactory, also working on improving your Sim's skill. Also, in reference to it as a "tiny house" object, it can sort of be looked at as a nod to how people in real life tend to design and build their tiny homes and furniture themselves. There's usually a lot of handiwork involved and trial and error. I personally think though, that the bed should have been mechanical, not electronic. But that's another argument.
I think the bed has potential to be used in storytelling gameplay as well. You can have your Sim start off by sleeping in a cheap, single bed, and put the Murphy bed in the yard (or a garage) as a craft project. As your Sim learns the handiness skill, they work on the bed, and when it's ready, they "upgrade" and sell their single. It would have been cool if there was a visual change in the bed, but we can't have it all.
Anyway, if they do end up re-tuning the Murphy bed, I hope it's a very minor adjustment. The deviant players keep getting kicked to the curb when nearly every new death comes with an unavoidable "easy" mode and takes over two days to set in and no guarantees. (Which is why they deserve their Murphy death.) I feel like the devs could work on that "happy medium" a little more. Past games were better at this. A risk was a risk and it didn't drag out to give the player excessive time to ignore until they chose to avoid it. It just happened. It was part of the challenge of playing an actual game. I don't think it's fun to see the sims I've spent time & effort creating & developing get killed, especially not the moment we place one of those deathtraps in their home. Those things are out of my game until they do tone it down.
You can have your sim upgrade the bed. Ninja said an upgraded bed is very unlikely to kill, and that is my point. They give ways in game to prevent these things if you wish, but rather than utilize that option you would rather take it away from everybody. It’s wrong,
A newly made sim will most likely lack the skill to upgrade anything for quite a while. I find this whole upgrading the bed thing to be a poor solution to be honest. The way the bed is right now a player will be lucky if their sim makes it long enough to even learn enough skill before they become a victim to it. I for one am glad for the mod and I have it in my game but at the same time I can't help feel bad for those that can't use mods. I don't believe the death should be removed from the item but as mentioned by other posters in this thread it really should be balanced and toned down a bit. It's pretty much the selling point of the pack but it's no good if people are scared to use it.
My sim had no skills as she was a day or two in from a Rags to Riches start when she bought hers. No problem to me to have her select 'nap' on the sofa part rather than risk the bed. With the micro house boosts getting handiwork leveled was really fast.
There's in game ways to prevent it. There's a mod to prevent it. I want the deaths. I don't see why the people wanting it should lose out when others REFUSE to use the options they have.
Console players can't use mods. I don't know if you realize that. I'm using the mod and I'm fine with it btw. Clearly others aren't. They bought the pack as well and I personally think there should be a middle ground for those that like the deaths and those that don't.
Console players have in game options. Btw has anyone tried selling upgraded ones in a retail store? Might be a good option for those who have a sim with handiwork but don't want to bother waiting on a new sim.
Is it possible to upload an upgraded Murphy bed to the gallery? For those that don't want to upgrade their skills or use a mod...- Kittybass6 years agoSeasoned AceYes, I've seen a few fully upgraded beds on the Gallery, it's a good idea! I uploaded a Murphy ghost to mine for people who might want a ghost but don't want to kill a sim for it.
- If I can upgrade the bed, then I am fine with it. Can I use a Sim to visit the Murphy bed house, and have them upgrade it?
- Kittybass6 years agoSeasoned AceThat's a bummer the upgrades don't stick, because I would have uploaded my upgraded ones that I just used for testing.

My experiment with 8 Sims in the same household with 8 Murphy beds ended in 14 Sim days.
Murphy bed killed 6 Sims in first week (days 1-7). The last two Sims managed to stay alive the whole next week. Murphy bed finally killed the 7th Sim on day 14.
I saved the last one who survived. She won the challenge and moved to Sulani and is currently drowning herself in too much Kava to forget her traumatic experience in the house of Murder beds. B)
Wow that is really slow compared to other deaths in the Sims 4. I know with my deviant save, I can kill Sims within a few days with most deaths except for starving and drowning in the pool which takes about 4 Sim days.
I didn't try to kill them, though, I just made them use the Murphy beds to sleep in them. Also I actually tried to prevent the beds killing them by making the Sims repair the beds every morning when they woke up (the beds broke every night). I've understood that the beds kill faster if they are broken.
I wanted to see how fast the Sims would die during a normal game play without upgrading the beds, but just repairing them. I also didn't control the Sims much, other than repairing the beds and making them lift the beds up. If I had actively tried to kill them with the beds I'm sure they wouldn't have lasted many days.
I've been doing something similar, except the beds all broke the first night and I haven't had any sim repair them. 4 sims days in and all 8 sims are still alive. Which quite disappoints me to be honest D:
Yeah, the deaths seem to be very inconsistent. It was quite a difference between the first week (6 deaths) and second week (only one death) in my game. Your Sims have been very lucky. :) "Finvola;c-17384030" wrote:

That would be nice if they did. I would be ok with Gallery getting a patch like that.- AedanStarfang6 years agoSeasoned VeteranI finally bit the bullet and placed a murphy bed in the hallway of my ever growing small family house (after aging up my alien son to a teen who shares a room with his brother) we needed an extra bed for our vampire uncle to sleep so I upgraded it twice (spring & spring loaded), two different sims slept on it (once pre-upgrade and one after) zero deaths or maiming thus far...

I don't see why not. If it's in the same save then I think it should be fine, as long as there are no restrictions to the upgrading by a visiting Sim. - Please keep the death as is, give this poor game some life!
