I wish that you didn't have to constantly switch between them to achieve goals. I would like to see it so that if you complete a goal even while the aspiration isn't selected then it could still comp...

I agree but it would be annoying to unlock milestones you don't want to. I think aspirations need a re-work in general.
My biggest gripe about aspirations is the lackluster rewards. The Friend of the World aspiration's reward is a trait that disables relationship decay. That's cool and all, but I already have 20 friends, I can probably handle the decay. Plus what would I need it for?
A great alternative would be unlocking the 'Influence To:' menu, or receiving gifts from friends every now and then (à la celebrities in TS3).
