The game can have a lot of lag sometimes, for some reason opening the pause menu and closing it again temporarily fixes it. That often helps when the game lags during build/buy mode or after you have taken photos. I think we have had that bug for a long time now.
Other things that can help is clearing your sims inventories or reducing the amount of items on lots like mirrors and fountains, if you have seasons, then fall and winter can be a bit demanding to render.
These are good to note. I am a huge user of the menu button to clear the lag but for the last couple of days, that hasn't helped at all. I also haven't added any new water features or mirrors than I had a week ago. So I don't think that's a problem.
The only two differences are the mini-update thing and the 5th baby. So it may be one or both of them.
However, I will note that the lag went away for a little while today until I evolved two bonsai bushes. Immediately after, the lag came back.
