My Sims don't auto-interact with my pets

My pets (cat & dog) are companions with the two adults in my household, but my sims just won't do anything with them without me forcing them to. I have the two married parents, a child, and a toddler. Most of the time I'm hung up on taking care of the toddler and making sure my child is fed. While I'm focusing on one parent and the toddler, I'm hoping that the other parent will at least take 5 seconds to pet the dog and the cat, but they don't. Ever. I've played 7 different households with multiple people with pets, and each time, my pets have run away from neglect. I had 2 households with just one pet and one adult, so I was able to give the pet manual attention. I just don't know what to do, its making pets so unenjoyable. It's starting to make me just not want to include them in my households anymore it's becoming such a stress.

I've been recommended to make my pets have the Independent trait, but I'm curious if there's anything else I can try. Autonomy is on, and none of my pets have the Loyal trait. Will manually interacting with them more make my Sim start auto-interacting with them more?

I've had absolutely no issues with my Sims interacting with their pets, in fact, I've had to stop my Sims from interacting in order to get them to do their work, eat or sleep. My pets have random traits and not all of them are companion status, nor do my Sims have Cat Lover or Dog Lover trait. I don't have any children or toddlers though, so maybe that has something to do with it. Sorry you're having this issue.
  • Same as you OP. I've had two generations with pets now and every time, they run away because they get neglected.

The toddlers imitate the dog but never interact with him, the adults will SOMETIMES talk to a dog if he's here when they're eating or something, but that's pretty much it. It didn't matter if they didn't have kids before, they'd still never go out of their way to talk to the dog.

It's extremely sad. I wonder if having a big house with a lot of fun things to do has anything to do with that, to be honest.

Same here....autonomous pet interactions often pop up at the wrong time for me just as I'm about to send a sim to do something. I have noticed however that sometimes the autonomous pet interactions get cancelled out because of something else....so maybe some people are experiencing more interruptions in those interactions than others.
