My tips for University (spoilers, I guess), feel free to expand the list

  • If you go to Foxbury, don't buy a bike. The neighborhood is full of long stairs and using a bike will cause you to miss classes when the pathfinding get confused.
  • Make sure you enroll early, so you get to move into your dorm / housing on a Friday. That gives you 2½ days to get ahead on stuff (instead of partying).
  • See above. Use those days to finish all homework for the first day, finish writing all papers (and edit them so they are Excellent) and of course do the same with any Presentation Board you got.
  • Speaking of the board: The papers? You can just submit them Monday night and be done with it. But leave the board until Friday, because doing "Practice Presentation" will make you gain Charisma very quickly.
  • Until you have learned what classes are at what building, leave 1½ hour before class instead of rushing when there's one hour left. As far as I can tell, all Computer Science classes are in the low building across the campus, and not in the high-rise with the waterfall.
  • I find that a good idea if you want to do the Academic aspiration is to take the debate class, to quickly rise your skill.
  • Odd one: Make a study group Club. Because the "Kid Activities" Homework works and gives you benefits, but since it is officially a Kids activity nobody in your Club will do it with you. Maybe also add Debate and just "social - friendly" to the club as well to gain club points quickly with the help of other members.
  • See above. Use the club points to buy the Homework bonus and the Debate bonus.
  • Don't make a Robotics club because the other members will die from electrocution eventually.
  • Things to bring from home / buy on campus: Earbuds. Mini Fridge to store all food in people leave lying around. Laptop if you can afford it. Just don't forget to bring them back home with you. I also brought a yoga mat, so if my Sim had the time she would have a strong Focused moodlet for class.
  • Giving your Sim the Morning Person perk is a good idea. You will benefit from it.

When the pack came out, I made a family of two Sims.

    - I wanted one to go to Foxbury, and the other to Britechester. To do this, I chose the starter home lot in Gibbs Hill and built a new one for them.
    - So to add to the list I'd say if you want to play both Sims; who go to 2 different uni's then make a dorm style lot in Britechester or any other world.
  • I have a biggie if you don't want to lose assess to your sim's belongings.

If your sim uses the storage box don't forget to take everything out and put it in your sim's personal inventory before moving. If you don't the game will NOT allow your sim to take their things out after they have moved. The game will say this stuff doesn't belong to its owner.

    • I prefer to enroll on Monday and start classes on Tuesday. That gives me a few hours on Monday to get Tuesday's homework done. I do the rest of the classwork as I go along. I can still use the weekend to finish term papers and presentations if needed but I can also use the weekend to party if everything's done.
    • Living off campus makes it much easier to get to class on time, even if you're living in Gibbs Hill (the town between the two universities).
    • Study at the library. It has the Study Spot lot trait which will make homework go faster. You should also use this lot trait for your Sim's house if you can.
    • Join the Brainiacs if you are a Foxbury student. They meet at the library and their events give extra credit to all classes once you reach level 2.
    • Join the organizations that fit your degree. if you can, and level up. Attending their events gives extra credit for the classes in those degrees once you reach level 2.
    • Use the research machine (ERAM) to learn Research & Debate. You will gain skill for researching anything but you can choose Research Methodologies to get an extra boost to the skill.
    • Consider becoming a spellcaster if you have Realms of Magic. Brooms and Transportalate are ideal for getting around campus. Other spells and potions are also quite helpful, such as Scruberoo, Delicioso, Plentiful Needs, and Nimble Mind.
    • Other things you might want to take to a dorm: tent, inflatable double bed, portable shower, stack of gifts, microphone, musical instruments, portable bar.
    • Don't take a grill or other cooking device to the dorm unless you plan to put it back in your personal inventory immediately after use. They are not allowed in dorms, which means your lot will not be considered a dorm any longer if you leave them there.

    • Monday works fine, but it's a matter of play style (neither I, nor my Sims really care for parties all that much). If you do three or more classes per semester not having that first weekend to get a head start is really annoying (to me). That's one of the reasons I restarted (I failed to keep up and got an F).
    • Living off campus is a very good option, but it also negates about 30% of what the pack has to offer, really. Living in a dorm is such a vital part of the atmosphere to me.
    • I was thinking afterwards that grabbing a bar would be a quick way to earn a few bucks. Just attend the bar in the dorm.

    • I prefer the Friday enrollment over Monday because it gives your Sims more time to prepare, do their homework, get some skills up, etc. But I don't have them do term papers or presentations until after they have attended one class that requires those things. I read someone had their student do their presentation before the term started and were accused of cheating because of it.
    • I love the bikes, but yes, they aren't good for getting to class on time in Foxbury. They're great for getting your Sims fun up extremely fast and for fitness though while using them elsewhere.

If your Sim attends Britechester, they're very handy for getting to class on time. Not so much if they live in the dorms though. But if they live in the Dark Wing house, they're great!
    • Concerning the bikes, if your Sim has one in their inventory and you don't want them to use it to go somewhere, choose 'walk here' ONLY! If you pick 'jog here' or click on an object for them to interact with, for instance a fishing sign and pick 'go fishing', they'll still use the bike to get there.
    • I've had a student live in dorms at both universities and don't like them at all. Dark Wing house is okay, but you still get the problems from the dorms following you there. Dark Wing has a fridge, yes, but you can still only use them to get quick meals and such. You can't even make a salad. o.O
    • Speaking of meals, have your Sim eat in the commons cafeteria for free, there's usually a lower calorie option or better yet, have them eat harvestables. They can gather them during off hours or buy the starter seed packets. They get a nice moodlet for eating them too. Or they can just eat all the free rich meals dorm mates constantly drop everywhere if you don't care about your Sims getting overweight.
    • The commons are great for a boost in studying/homework because of the 'study spot' lot trait, but it's not worth it IMO. You'll have other Sims constantly trying to chat with your Sim. Even Sims currently off lot will make a beeline for your Sim when they are there. I prefer to lock my Sims dorm room door for everyone when they do homework. Yes, everyone. If you don't, other dorm mates will come bother your Sim AND your Sim won't stay at their desk or sit on their bed to do it, they'll leave and go sit at another dorm mates desk or bed instead. Even if you first tell them to sit in the chair. Just don't forget to unlock it for everyone but your student and room mate (if they have one) when they're done. ;)
    • If your Sim lives off campus the best way to make sure they get to class on time is send them to the commons for their university, then command them to 'walk here' about 45 minutes before class in front of their classroom building. If it's the first day of class and it starts before 11 a.m. so you can't check 'office hours' on the buildings to see which class is held where, go to the commons a little over an hour early. That way, when it's an hour before class, they'll automatically head towards the correct building on their own and you'll know for next time which building to send them to.
    • Some say leveling up skills doesn't matter for grades or make a difference, but I think they do. At least that's been the experience I've had with two students now. Each one made an effort to level up the skill needed for a particular class, and sometimes even the skills needed for previous classes and both have gotten A+ in every class as a result. They do their homework immediately after class as well.
    • If there is a skill your Sim needs to improve for a class, but is almost impossible to do, for instance my Sim needed gardening while living in the dorms, have them buy skill books, or use the Research and Debate machines otherwise if they can't afford to buy the books.
    • Don't study or buy the study books. It's a waste of time and simoleons. Your Sims don't need them to get a good grade. My Sims have not studied even once and it didn't matter.
    • When your Sim has two classes in two different buildings scheduled only 5 minutes apart, use the 'teleport here' cheat to get them there on time. Just turn testingcheats on and then click on the ground in front of the classroom building. Don't do it TOO close to the steps though. They'll end up just flickering in and out then canceling the cheat and walking there instead.
    • When modifying a room in Dark Wing house (the ground floor room in this case) using the bb.enablefreebuild cheat to add a double bed if your Sim wants to share it with another dorm mate when in a relationship, make sure to keep the relationship high enough or their bedmate will move out of the house without any notice. My Sim's now ex-girlfriend did that. :( He'd been so focused on his classes, the friendship bar went down too far.
    • Sometimes dorm mates will follow your Sim wherever they go on their own. When they arrive at the destination, the dorm mate will have the 'group' icon thingie above their head. Click on them, find the action menu and click 'disband' group. Otherwise they'll follow your Sim around and bug them to death. Of course, they might be friends and you don't mind them following, but thought I'd mention it.
    • When your Sim gets to class early and has some time to do something, go ahead and use that time to their advantage to increase needs or do homework while standing there. It won't cancel the 'go to class' action, they'll still disappear to class when it's time. Just be sure to cancel whatever they do a few minutes before class starts so they have time to stop doing it.

That's all I've got so far. There is still much more I haven't explored yet with this pack. I'll add more to this thread as I experience more if I feel it'll help.

    Happy Simming! <3
  • See, I know my computer is reasonably powerful, but I had zero issues with the dorms.

    Dorm specific tips:

    • Get a mini fridge. Steal all the meals left.
    • Just keep track of the time and if the "go to class" action hasn't showed up in your queue automatically 59 minutes before class starts, just go manually.
    • You can add lot traits yourself. I added "study spot" to my dorm, because why not?
    • ...However even without it, I have no problem with doing my homework in the dorm. If you don't feel you have time to socialize? just click away their faces in your queue.

    • If you select an elective class, the chance is high that you risk getting a class that will happen in another building with only five minutes to get there. It can happen with normal classes as well. You will not make it in time and your grades will suffer. I reported this to Answer HQ because I think this is a major oversight. If that happens then I think you should just cheat and teleport, if Maxis did not bother, why should you?

    • LittleMsSam has also made some really useful mods that will stop the annoying shocking from robotics, allow you to buy more than one part at a time so you do not have to click 99 times to buy 99 parts (seriously Maxis?) allow stoves on dorms, and also make your sim run to class.

    • Stairs not only makes it worse for you if you have a bike, they can also cause your sim to bug out and reset before getting to class.

    • If you wake up with not enough time to fill your needs before class, just fill your hygiene and grab some food to eat. Your sim will run with the plate to the building and eat it before class. When your sim is at the class they will visit the toilet.

    • Consider traveling somewhere else when organizations have meetings outside your dorm. They will often cause simulation lag.

    • Consider traveling somewhere else to reset the needs for your roommates, they can often get stuck outside the class building or by doing their hidden roommate traits for ever which will cause their needs to get low. I had a sim who constantly played the violin until they almost starved to death.

    • Get earbuds and listen to new age to make your sim stay focused. Buy an easel and make a focused painting to make your sim stay focused all the time.

    • Decorate your room with stuff to get a nice decorations buff. Helpful when your sim has low needs and you still need to study.

  • It is far less likely that your Sim bugs out in the stairs if you manually click "go there" outside the right building than if you let the sim go there by herself.
True about elective classes. Though the chances also sharply diminishes if you have lesser classes. I never go more than three classes total.
