Negative emotions NERFED, emotion system needs rework ASAP

With the addition of Sentiments, the room for negative emotions (Angry, Sad, Uncomfy, Tense, etc.) has become soooo thin that they're basically useless at this point. With little to no effort, Sims can now slide in from one Very positive emotion to another Very postive emotion. This... without any decoration on my lot yet. How much more if it's Decorated? This... on just a normal day (no holiday buffs, no lot traits, no upgraded objects, etc.) with basic buffs. Making a Sim's life miserable, for both story & gameplay purposes, is so much harder now. Everything has suddenly become easier in this already-easy game. Gameplay difficulty doesn't really exist anymore, which makes it a lot less enjoyable.

We desperately need an emotion system rework/overhaul.

Not to be rude, but how can they be any happier? The sims default emotion is literally Happy :D :D If you want your sims to be happy all the time, then maybe you should just take better care of them?..

I agree with the OP that happy buffs are way too strong in the game. I don't know why they haven't fixed this by now. An emotion for a "well decorated room" shouldn't be stronger than the emotions for Break ups, deaths, fights or Divorce. It just doesn't make sense.

And Fine should be the default, not Happy.
  • Sentiments added a lot. I just want MORE negative emotions. As LiELF said. Axiety, worry, fear, depression, terrified, anything you can think of ????? I also use meaningful stories so the negative emotions they do get last a lot longer.
I can't play without it now because they yoyo emotions like crazy rather its negative or positive.
  • Same here and I have no mods.

My sims are experiencing negative emotions. Last night while I was playing my sims were sad a LOT. They were either sad from being bad at winter sports or sad from shared sadness. It was actually bothering me a little that they were sad so much on the wonderful vacation I had planned for them. I use the Meaningful Stories mod though so I have no idea if that helps or not.

@GalacticGal - Yes, toddlers can definitely vaction, too! In fact, they can get some great Sentiments from going on vacation with their caregiver(s). Just remember, though, Build/Buy is not accessible from vacation lots and the rentals don't seem to have toddler beds or potties. I finally remembered that I only needed to use the phone and "Order Supplies" - all is well.

I'm a late bloomer, once again, and only just started to explore the Sentiments yesterday. I used my Ancestral game save for this, since Erik Cantrell has been married for awhile, now. I have my sixth great-grandparents as teens (they married at fifteen and just sixteen in 1761). I started the game in the summer season, since they married in the fall of the year. I was controlling her only at that moment. With their friendship level at full bar, I decided to have her do a few romantic interactions. I forget just what she did, but suddenly, a small pink bar appeared. And I experienced my very first Sentiment: Deeply Connected. Well, that didn't last for very long. I can't remember what I had her do, or if her action was autonomous, and I may never know, but suddenly, he was telling her she was beautiful, but that he didn't feel that way about her. :open_mouth: This is the woman he held close to his heart for all of his years on the Earth!

I came to the boards, and happily a kind player suggested I just need to give them time. I took the advice to heart. I rolled back the game save, and controlling him this time, I experienced four Sentiments, each growing upon the last. Deeply Connected; Close; Adoring; and Smitten! Now, that's more like it. I do have the latest Slice of Life mod installed, but I don't think it had anything to do with it. I will find out, I suppose as I go along.

Today, however, I will likely give my Global Superstar the much-needed vacation. I just have to figure out if toddlers can come along, or if I need to speed up the aging process, first.

@poisonedsodapop Do you enjoy the current state of the Emotions system in the game? Do you find it balanced enough?

Ever since the last patch, the emotions have definitely been more balanced, and traits have a stronger "push", too. I do not have any emotion-related mods so my guess is that this upsurge in negative emotions and trait-based behaviours had to have been tweaked in the Nov 13th patch.

Im certainly not fine with my sims have permanent smiles on their faces, especially when things are going on with their life that doesnt warrant a big ol' happy smile. Just because a room has a pretty picture in it doesnt make a recent breakup any better. What does it take for actual negative emotions to last for more than a couple hours? Im honestly thinking of trying out this mod just so my sims arent acting as though they live in a utopia where nothing bad ever happens. And I agree, Fine is the perfect default mood.

It hasn’t been updated since March but it works perfect and the creator has stated there are no issues with the latest patch.
  • If they can only make it so that Happy is not the "default" emotion, and the negative ones last a bit longer, are stronger, and come from more sources/chances..

I guess for now i have to create the drama myself and constantly throw in bad stuff to my Sims manually like a sadistic god or something lol.

The default actually seems to be Fine now. But the problem is how they act when they are ostensibly Happy. I keep them as Happy as possible at all times. But they look bored or zoned out sometimes when all their needs are completely full, they are Happy, and they are engaged in a fun activity.
