New to Cluttering - Help!

Hey everyone,

I have what I would could only assume to be a major noob issue while trying to venture out into creating builds for the Gallery. I'm usually very lazy when creating builds for my personal game but I've been so inspired lately and I just have to make some builds! (Would love to showcase them eventually) I've been watching some tutorial's using the OMSP Red Shelf and just general cluttering tutorials.. yet I'm still stuck. I would like to note that I do have bb.moveobjects on. I suppose this isn't directly just a OMSP Red Shelf question, seems like a lot of people who do not utilize the CC item still do this method and it works well for them. Many tutorials and speed builds show someone placing clutter items on, for example, a counter, and dragging the counter away without the items moving with the counter. They stay floating as if the counter were still underneath it. How does one do this?! I use a Mac but I'm not too sure that has much to do with my issue (or it one hundred percent could be).

I tried a simple search on the forums but didn't come across this question so I apologize if it's a repeat! Thanks so much guys!

To do that (with moveobjects on) you place the item on the counter, move the counter out and then just move the item. The item stays at the same level. To fine tune where you want the item hold the Alt key (or Mac equivalent) to move it around freely.
  • you put the object on floor where the counter is going to go and move the object with alt and 9 (up) 0 (down) and then put the actual counter or whatever shelves after

you can also rotate while holding alt using mouse so the object faces any possible direction you want

I’m so embarrassed now that it’s been explained, that’s definitely what they’re doing and I’m just missing it entirely.. lol! Thank you so much.

I love the 9 and 0 trick, I just wish it was a little more forgiving in terms of preset shelf or counter heights (or anywhere they could snap to the level). The floaty objects make me laugh! Thank you!
  • I also use a technique where I place a duplicate surface in front of the one I’m trying to clutter, but slightly moved to the side (so that its slots are lined up with the empty spaces on the surface I’m trying to decorate). So you need MOO to nudge the second surface over a bit. Then I place my objects onto the second surface then move them onto the first surface, again with MOO. Then delete the duplicate surface.
  • I used to use the 9 and 0 thing a lot but then it just seemed to stop working for me. Now if I press the 9 or 0 it just moves the screen drastically.

I think that's when you have cinematic camera points set on the 9 and 0 keys. Not sure if I'm right but pressing Ctrl+9 and Ctrl+0 should give you the up & down functionality (this is also for the TS3 camera mode). This post has a how-to on resetting the camera presets: https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/comment/15850858/#Comment_15850858
  • If you want to make items smaller to use as clutter, click on the “” to adjust the size of the object.
