Not all occults can be gamepack

The complaint about aliens, and mermaids are that they were in expansion packs not game packs.Asking why didn't they have a whole pack dedicated to them.Like vampires or spellcasters?
Well for two reason.Unlike vampires, and spellcasters. There is not a lot of lore they could use to make their own pack. Some because of time you will get less ocults if they were only in gamepacks. If mermaids , robots, and aliens we're not added in their respective pack.I don't think we would get them at all.

Mermaids definitely ain't complete. If occults are MEANT to come with skill trees, and they are best when they do, why don't mermaid get one?

We could easily have plenty of skills for mermaids, like one perk being weather manipulation, singing to lure sims and make them fall in love with you, stealing the voices of others, turning others into mermaids by bubble kisses, wooing sims into your bed, perfect swimming ability, pet dolphin, use all things mermaid get in IL and turn it into a skill tree, and add new ones too, like the ones I mentioned. Create an underwater world, like Sulani, but only 2-3 above land lots, and make the rest underwater, and only mermaids can visit/live there. You can EASILY flesh out mermaids to be a GP.
Aliens maybe not a whole GP, but easily a small skill tree. take the current skills, plus the ability to insta-impregante other sims with clones of you, turning other sims into Aliens, teleporting... so many skills and alien could have, and you think they're fine?

Occult players definitely don't consider aliens or mermaids any where near as good as others think. they have so much potential, but it was squandered.

Rolls eyes , occults are not meant to come with soil tree.Only ones that we're meant with game pack.Mermaid game pack would not work.

Honestly, I do think that merfolk could be expanded enough to have a decent skill tree and a full pack built around them. First of all, human and mer form only? How about a Creature from the Black Lagoon/The Shape of Water-inspired bipedal fish person form. Not all merfolk have to have the fish on the bottom, human on top look. Just look at Rikuo from the Darkstalkers games!:
    https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/capcomdatabase/images/4/40/Darkstalkers3Rikuo.png/revision/latest?cb=20110319182651

Then, there are things like the ability to summon storms, enthrall others with their voice, speak to sea animals. You could easily also add powers like water manipulation, the ability to surround another sim's head with a giant water drop and potentially drown them, the ability to use water to heal illnesses on sims and pets, increased or decreased water dependency, the ability to transform into a sea monster while in the ocean or a large enough pool (What? Who says merfolk shouldn't be able to transform into giant sea monsters? That would be badoars!!), being more likely to get hit by lightning or be electrocuted than other sims (a weakness), increased cold immunity/vulnerability, increased heat immunity/vulnerability, fishing perks...Oh, a mermaid skill tree could look pretty wild! All you need is a little imagination!

And, as mentioned before, a whole underwater world to explore, scuba diving in fully fleshed-out ocean environments, Ocean Lore, Navigation, the ability to sing/play/compose sea shanties...the amount of stuff for non-merfolk to do could also end up being pretty decent too! So, yeah, a decent GP (or, at least, a much meatier addition to an EP) could easily have been made out of merfolk if the will and the imagination had been there...
  • Maybe not all of them game packs per say, but mermaids probably would have turned out better if they had been in a stuff pack? Same with the remaining occult’s, I’d rather a werewolf stuff pack for example than another half baked occult squeezed into some EP. People seem to be more lax about the stuff packs too, so realism players wouldn’t have to take such a hit in not adding them to their game.. Less complaining from realism players, better occult’s, win win?
  • I think the only thing mermaids really need is a underwater neighborhood of their own; I doubt adding a skill tree would make them any more fun to play. I downloaded a mod that expanded mermaids and I still haven't played with them much. What they need is a place they can explore in tail form.

Aliens came out before they decided to put occults in their own game packs, but I think they could definitely fill up such a pack. Aliens can literally do and be anything you can imagine and I'd love to see an alien neighbohood such as Sixam where sims can actually live.

I completely agree with this post.

I don't think Mermaids need a power tree, but if they had been in a Game Pack I could see them expanded on in other ways, mostly regarding ocean habitat and environment and skills, with more seashell, coral, and seaweed furniture. But even that's kind of stretching it out.

Aliens have been a staple in the Sims series for a very long time and used to be in the base game, but I could see them further explored in a Game Pack, especially when you add Sixam into the mix. I do really like the connection to the Science career though, and we may not have had that angle to Science if they had been separate. But I mean, the last time I've played Aliens was Sims 2 so I think the Sims 4 Aliens are awesome. A Sci-Fi spacey pack for them would have been fun, though.

The thing with Occults in the Sims 4 is, not all of them are going to get the Vampires treatment because they're not all in demand equally, nor do they all have the right kind of mythology behind them that would warrant a slew of powers. Vampires and Witches had endless threads made about them for years, so they were highly requested and also have the extensive lore sources in real life to back them up with lots of possibilities. Most Mermaid lore is pretty basic when it comes to actually using powers. But that's why I think they came out pretty accurate and didn't need a Game Pack. But they definitely could have used some deep water and playable swimming activity.

We have to also keep in mind that the devs aren't going to use anything excessively violent or murderous, or create something too out of place for a Sims game. They still have to connect with the rest of the simulation somehow.

Mermaids were in more demand than werewolves. It's funny how they knew that, but didn't give much thought to them.
What saddens me is Lyndsay saying occults were never meant to be a tradition after they had spent the last fifteen years making them a tradition in every EP..go figure. To me that's like saying next time but Seasons was never meant to be a tradition EP and so therefore, we won't be adding any seasons with the new game. That's how much it affects players.

I remember when Lyndsay said that and there was no way I was going to let that go. I think that was a personal interpretation from her being a certain type of player. I mean, weren't ghosts and Aliens in Sims 1's base game (I didn't play it so I'm not sure, but I thought they were) as well as magic and other odd stuff added in packs later? I know for sure that Occults were in Sims 2, Aliens in the base game. At this point in the Sims series, to say that Occults aren't a tradition is like saying that families aren't either, and we all saw what happened when toddlers were delayed. I mean, yeah, the original premise of the game as I understand it, predominantly revolved around adult life as a dramatic parody based on soap operas. But the game always included that edge of the supernatural right down to the Grim Reaper because it also had that "anything is possible" nuance in the details.

Going back to Mermaids vs Werewolves for a second, I need to just say that there were an awful lot of people voting for Mermaids because they wanted ocean swimming, not because they actually wanted Mermaids. I remember reading the Twitter replies and forums as to why people voted for Mermaids and that was one of the most common reasons. If the game had already had ocean swimming, I think the demand would have been a lot less and the outcome would have been different.

And now people are asking for Werewolves because they want body hair. But you know what? If that's what gets us there, I'm fine with that, request away! Lol. I just don't want to see Werewolves getting nerfed one day because people bought the pack for the body hair. Patch that in so the Occult players can enjoy them in peace.

Just because YOU don't think a mermaid GP wouldn't work doesn't make that true. That's like me telling you that Parenthood deserved to be an SP, rather than a GP. Or that kids have enough to do.

I play with occults, others play with families. I'm not about to tell family players that I think they have enough. If thye say they don't, they don't.
Don't tell occult players that what we have is good enough, because it isn't. Mermaids are essentially humans with a tail when they swim, and thats it. Their powers are so limited, and their variety nearly non existent. You can essentially make a traditional western style mermaid, and nothing different. Aliens come in only one form, and it is Sim-like.

Vampires got fleshed out, and so did witches. Why are Aliens and Mermaids so empty in comparison? Both could have benefitted SO MUCH from a Game Pack. Much like families could benefit from more packs as well.
