Every other other child aspiration requirement actually does something to build the skill the aspiration is based around, but not this one! You just have to waste two hours reading with the kid and it does nothing. No skills built, no beneficial emotion moodlets. It fills fun and social a bit, and that's it. I don't like it either. I find that it is difficult to get an adult to read with a child. I avoid this aspiration because I usually get stuck trying to do it.How do you get them to read to a child?

Plus, books are entirely associated with creativity in the sims--reading books builds imagination in toddlers, not thinking, and writing books is a creative task that benefits from feeling creative and not focused. I could almost forgive the flavor of it if it was a task for the creative aspiration, since that would at least make sense thematically, but based on the world of the game as it is now (unlike our world) having a mentally focused child be read to by a parent doesn't really make any sense. I would honestly prefer the former, since as a book lover irl, I find books in the sims rather anemic and limiting.

I wish they would keep reading books in general in this game, but they like to stop reading to go do ANYTHING else. I think that’s a big part of why this goal is so annoying.

I don't mind it, but I've done it enough when they've finished the first task of that milestone I advance it forward with cheats.

I'm also in the camp of I don't mind it and think it's cute. It can be a pain in the beepity-beep though when a) the story ends too quickly and you have to micromanage putting several books in the inventory to queue up as the parent finishes and in a recent save I've found b) the aspiration can bug out if this is the 2nd aspiration done by the child. That recently annoyed the bejeezus out of me. >.< (I know I technically can "cheat" but, I usually don't play that way because...honesty, fairness, blah blah blah.) LOL

I find it difficult to finish because either the reader or readee quit in midway to do something else. I find it that I have to have all of their lifestates in complete green so that they can stay on point and finish that darned book! Or at least go at it for a one hour at a time. I am usually very tempted (well, I have actually, more than once) to cheat my way through this requirement especially as I found that I have a quite a lot of Sims that have to go through these aspirations.
