I think when that happens, people generally understand it. But to continue to sell it for full price but render the main gameplay object obsolete... It reduces the value of the pack and makes the players look like they're being taken advantage of. Which they most likely are anyway.
Perhaps a new hero object is in order? (Current owners would get it too, of course.)
