Options with Toddler when both parents are working?

Are there options with toddlers while both parents need to go to work? I'm still fairly inexperienced with toddlers but; in the past I have had them swap off and resorted to taking vacation days where that wasn't possible.

Make sure the house is set up properly for toddlers first. The non-active sims will usually try to care for the toddler anyway, at least as well as the nanny does. You might have to have the toddler ask for things if needed. I blogged about that method here.

Does this still work, or is the a bug that has since been "fixed"? If I try it, the sim from the active household simply won't leave. She'll get the "go to work" in her queue, and then a call from her boss when she's late, but just won't go to work.

No, it doesn't work anymore, unfortunately. They patched it out, or "fixed" it, I guess. I'm really annoyed about that because I loved my daycare setup, and now it's pretty useless.
  • I've found that having a live-in nanny works wonders for caring toddlers, even better that I have a live-in ghost nanny to help my toddler lol!
  • I agree completely with Nannies being a waste of space.

For me though, the biggest issue is that simply bathing/feeding/pottying the toddler (the bare minimum, with no play/socialisation) is a full time job. Each of those tasks takes 2-3 hours and needs doing a bit more than once a day. The only lifehack I so far discovered is that you can put a plate of food on the floor and let the toddler feed themselves.

Even so, i think you can forget about your adults advancing their career while their child is a toddler. They won't get their daily tasks done, they won't have time to build skills, heck there's going to be times when they show up for work with negative moodlets and low needs. Save your work vacation allowance for Toddler week, you'll need it just to catch up on stuff.
  • I generally have one stay at home parent but in my current game both parents work and I have a fantastic nany. I'm glad I lucked out with her because it seems some are useless.
  • I prefer the butler. I always tell Butler to "take care of minor" and he/she does it well with toddler and child. They don't seem to do well with infants though.
  • Please always try to check the date on a thread when posting - if the last post was a long while ago, it may be better to try and join the conversation in a more recent thread. I am closing this keeping that in mind.
