Painting only fun for creative sims?

I don't :) . And in terms of gameplay I think it's already a powerful enough skill, even for non creative sims. Coupled with the fact that there are countless ways to raise the fun need, I like the idea of not being able to simply reach for any object on any sim to get it up and to actually have to take their traits into account.

What about Sims that have the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration but aren't Creative, then? Shouldn't they find it enjoyable?

In my opinion, no. It's definitely possible to have aspirations that you don't enjoy pursuing.

If they are an art lover maybe they should have fun painting, I dont think they do in game tho

I like it also. It's something that makes sims different. If my sim wasn't creative but wanted to be a great painter it makes more sense to me that would be harder and frustrating for them.. so finding out things as simple as listening to music or taking breaks to do something fun to them is part of their life and our gameplay.
Recently had a neat sim and found out gardening was fun to him. I really got a kick out of that.

I just wish that the quickest ways to build fun weren't all technology related. :(

Pets work great, most of the friendly interactions build fun. Even taking a dog for a jog builds fun.

I have yet to find any adult sim who actually enjoys doing creative things, whether they're creative themselves or not... My simself is a writer like me, and even has the Creative trait, but doesn't actually have fun writing. I think that's weird.

If you want to raise your sim's fun bar without relying on modern technology, have them sing or play an instrument, provided that they're not too stressed or unwell to do so. The horseshoe-throwing thing from Outdoor Retreat also works, as does playing chess, and if you buy the Gym Rat trait from the rewards store, they will have fun working out.

I don't want to buy the Pets EP. I never enjoy it that much.

I also wish it was more ways for them to have fun then the most technology things that are in there now... But I also agree that if they aren't creative they shouldn't really have fun doing painting. But I do think art lover should have fun doing it. In actuality even creativity doesn't mean you enjoy it. myself I would consider myself creative, but I like to write and create stories. I hate painting and any other arts and crafts haha.

That's pretty much what I have been doing. I finally allowed the wealthier houses to have the gramaphone as they entered the "Victorian" age but they still have a way to go before they get TVs and computers.
