Possible Scientist career bug? SOLVED (mostly)

This is NOT a bug report (yet) just seeing if my problem is happening/has happened to others before I make a report.

Anyway, I have a sim in the Scientist career (she got a physics degree so started at level 8) & since I didn't want the hassle of trying to get 16 breakthroughs before she could be promoted I used the in-game cheat to give her those breakthroughs. She gets through the workday just fine but when her shift ends I get the "failed to load game" error message & get bumped to the world-picker screen after a minute or so of the loading screen. I've tried repairing the game & removing the mods folder, still happens. Is anyone else that's playing a scientist having this problem? I couldn't find a recent bug report for it.

Thanks :)

ETA: I should've added that this sim is kind of special. She has 3 degrees, finished 13 aspirations, has 50 or so traits (reward store, aspiration, etc), and maxed 18 skills (and close to maxing a couple more). Don't even know how it all happened as it never seemed hard or take long. I'd hate to have to scrap the save & start over.
  • UPDATE: ok, I think I've mostly solved it. My sim was living in San Myshuno when she started the Scientist career then I moved her to Palomino Junction in Chestnut Ridge into a house I downloaded from the gallery (after doing a "save as" before the move), which is when the problem started. Not sure if it's the house or the lot itself but I went back into the San Myshuno save and so far my sim has returned home from work with no problem. Now to figure out which it is, house or lot.
  • Thanks @SweetieWright_84 I do use MCCC so I'll look into that just in case ?.
  • Could there have been a welcome wagon event about to occur in her new Chestnut Ridge neighborhood when you saved and exited?
There is a bug like that reported, that results in failure to load game.

Here's the posted solution-- I feel like it's more of a workaround, but it seems to work

I just managed to replicate this error on a new save myself, and it seems to specifically be an issue with the PreWelcomeWagon situation (which is the situation that spawns in neighbor sims prior to the welcome wagon event starting); if you save the game while this situation is in effect (before the welcome wagon event itself starts), you will get this error when attempting to reload the lot. However, I've found that you can load into a different household, then switch back to the original one and it should load, as the situation doesn't get saved when you switch between households. This error also seems to occur with certain welcome wagon type events you may get occasionally in Sulani (such as the Extra Food event); but again, it's only if the game is saved right before the event starts. If the event has already started, the error won't occur from what I've found.

  • @mightysprite not sure; maybe? Now that I think about it I never got a welcome wagon visit. I'll check AHQ & "me too" that one if it applies. Thanks ?.

ETA: Thanks @mightysprite that worked :). @EA_Cade could you close/have closed this thread?

In my experience, cheats are something you use at your own risk, they can impact game play in unexpected ways. I've been playing the scientist career and haven't had this issue. Then again, my sim isn't particularly special. She worked her way up from the bottom. No college. She didn't finish her first aspiration until after she reached the top of the Scientist career. Also, I don't own all of the packs. I can't rule out the possibility that this is a glitch caused by an interaction with something in a different pack I don't own.
  • I have had that happen, I chalked it up to a corrupted save. It wouldn't load my household from the map screen though. The household it happened in, my sim was a scientist but I think he was already retired at that point.

If I'm not mistaken, if your save's slot number ends with a 'c' it means it's corrupted. At least most of my corrupted files had always ended with a 'c.' I'm not 100% sure if that's always the case though.

Can you save your sim to your Library and start a new save with them? I know career progress and skills carry over but I'm not sure if reward and bonus traits and degrees do. Could you make a note of all their achievements (and other things that don't carry over), and cheat them back?
  • @SweetieWright_84 yes I can save her to my library. Reward & bonus traits & degrees don't carry over unfortunately, which I'm not too bothered about since I know what she has. The degrees, more specifically the diplomas, are another matter. If I want her to have them with the correct uni, degree & her name on them I'd have to have her re-do them. I know I can cheat her getting a degree, but not the appropriate diploma. Oh well, if I have to I'll just do without diplomas. Going to try a couple of things & see what happens.

If you use mods, specifically MCCC, I'm pretty sure you can cheat the degrees. I know you've already found a possible culprit but I just wanted to tell you that in case you didn't know. I can't remember what it's under in MCCC, maybe cheats?
