Question about Moving your Game to Another Computer

Hey, I just had another question. I didn't want to put this in the bugs category, because I'm just asking how to do something. So I have a very large Sims 4 game that I've played a lot on. I have multiple saves and packs, and a good amount of cc. I want to move my game, with everything I already have on it, to another computer that has more storage so I feel more secure about running the game. Do I just need to copy my folder of the Sims 4 and put it on an external hard drive and move it onto another computer? Also, are the files different for Mac and Windows? I might be moving my Mac game to a Windows if this is possible.

Thanks,
jamiehood

Your sims 4 game is linked to your origin account. When you own a Mac version, you can download the game on Windows but you need to download the windows version through Origin . Download /install the Windows version of Origin onto the other computer. Then log into origin on this other computer using the same account that you used to register the game and packs on the Mac , then click on the Games Library section, click on the sims 4 picture, then download/install it there. Then click the extra content and packs buttons that are half way down the page. They will shows you what game packs, stuff packs and eps you own. You can then download/install them there.

Make a copy of your sims 4 folder that is on your Mac computer that is in Documents > Electronic Arts > ( then The Sims 4 folder is there ) and place it on an external drive.
Then after installing the sims 4 game onto the other computer, play it once to generate a new sims 4 folder.
In your sims 4 folder are your saves folder ( contains your save games) and the tray folder ( which contains your lots and households that you have uploaded to your library or have downloaded from the community gallery ) Replace the saves, tray, mods, custom music and screenshots folders that are in the new sims 4 folder with the same folders that are in the sims 4 folder on your external drive. You will then have your old save games, mods and creations etc on your other computer :)
  • Copying the whole installation won’t work from Mac to Windows. Or the other way around. They use a completely different file system.

If all you want to do is copy over CC, saves, the tray folder, etc. that should be fine. But you will need to actually install the game on your new computer.

Install the game on the new computer. Then, open the game and run it for a whole (maybe make a sim and placing it on the lot). Thia will generate a The Sims 4 folder in your documents folder. Exit the game and paste all your previous stuff in that The Sims 4 folder and you should be good to go.

Um, I'm not too sure about Mac and Windows, sorry. I guess they should be.
  • That’s interesting, actually. I’m changing from Windows to Mac in a few days so I’m gonna keep an eye on this thread too.
