I would have to give it a solid 7 based on overall experience. It would be a solid 8, or even 9 if certain things would be addressed. I will explain these in a moment.
It is my favorite Sims game. Sims 3 used to be, but The Sims 3 became so buggy after all the expansions and unfixed issues, that it really became almost unplayable. Even with a great computer and installing on a SSD, Sims 3 ran pretty poorly.
I didn't buy the Sims 4 until it was out for almost 2 years. It was simply lacking an unreasonable amount of content. When I did buy it, I was a tad underwhelmed at first. But then, it grew on me. I know people are going to freak when I say this, but I like the loading screens. Overall, it keeps the simulation more contained. Odd things can be fixed by just visiting another lot and coming back. This beats having to reload the game in an attempt to fix things. Most of the time, it works. The load times aren't that big of a deal to me since the game isn't all that action packed to begin with.
Open world would have been nice, but let's be honest. Sims 3 had a neat persistent world, but that's only when it actually worked correctly. Most of the time, it didn't work. I was also disappointed with the Sims 3 when I spent a lot of time building venues and nightclubs only for them to only have 2 or 3 sims ever show up. Sure, you could form a group and go, but sometimes you want to see random people about which mostly didn't happen. The persistent world was a novel idea, but fell miraculously short. In Sims 4, I am very pleased with public venues being lively, and seeing new faces. This is a very good thing.
The pets and vampires, IMHO, are the best so far. I disliked the Sims 2 version of pets the most, since sending your pet into a car pool for a job seemed just outright silly and felt wrong. Sims 4 pets you must care for. It feels more natural. Vampires in Sims 4 are very sim worthy, and fun to play with. I didn't like them at first, but now, I play them all the time.
What kills me about the Sims 4 is the bugs. Finally, after a very long time, they decided to fix the party goals bug. I liked throwing parties at my house or other places, and this bug killed it. Then seasons came along. The amount of bugs created by seasons is just plain horrid. My pets, for the love of everything in all of existence, will not stop filling up my action queue. I've tried to deal with it, but It's just far too irritating to deal with. The weirdness of teleporting sims is also rampant. This stuff is immersion breaking beyond all reason. While they do at least attempt to address bugs, why the most irritating ones are left unfixed is really stupid.
When you pay for expansions, even if they are a year old, bugs should be fixed. I payed for it, and now your latest patch broke my old expansion. Maybe it's just an element about the expansion, but you still broke it. Its simply not right to just ignore it.
It's nice to see they at least patch the game. In Sims 3, you were lucky to even get an attempted fix. The community had to fix the game.
I really do like the feel and look of the Sims 4 best. Some of the design ideas seem a bit odd, but overall, it's fun. It's especially fun if you think outside the box, and do things different. If I had any really big problem with the game besides bugs, it would be that the game can seem rather easy no matter what. In order to fix that, you have to do it yourself.
Final word. It's not that the Sims 4 to me is bad game by any stretch, I just question the company. All I ask is you FIX YOUR MISTAKES.
I can understand your frustration about the bugs actually. I'm fortunate enough to have only few but the pets filling up the queue and the ever so occasional teleporting around is definitely annoying. I also sometimes think they should patch a little less frequently as patches do tend to break a whole set of things while fixing others, but I'm not entirely sure if that would be better. It may not annoy me as much rn, but if I had these two bugs and a whole slew of others, I'd definitely feel the same way. It's really up to random luck who gets what and how many bugs it seems :/ so I'm glad it is still a 7 for you, that ain't bad, but I do hope one day it can be a 8 or a 9 and that soon many more bugs get (permanently) fixed.
