They work to make the product. Why is it scummy for them the ask to be paid for their efforts? I assume you have a job? Do you go to work for the fun of it? Or do you expect to be paid? Are you scummy for wanting a paycheck? Pleae explain how it is different?
OK, I have read this response several times now and I still can't get my head around the point you are actually trying to make. A game developer releasing monthly DLC isn't the same thing at all.
Yes, I do have a job and yes I am paid for my work but I don't find excuses to get my bosses to pay me more money at every opportunity. I don't constantly harass and nag my bosses to pay me more money because "Oh, I did X this week and I don't normally do X", I don't create extra work out of thin air solely so I can later claim I did it and receive more money and I don't nag my bosses for more money when I end up doing overtime to get something finished because I chose to do that willingly and I know there is no overtime pay in my contract.
As I already said, I do not expect to get anything for free because I am simply not that kind of person, if I want something then I will spend the money for it but there comes a point where the wallet has to close and this is one of those instances - for me EA are being far too aggressive with their constant DLC packs and I find it to be obnoxious. They don't have to release these premium-priced monthly packs every month, they choose to do it. It puts me off wanting to spend money on the game because, to me, it is a black hole and a money pit.
I feel as though there is simply no need for EA to do this and I look down on ANY developer who decides to follow this kind of model for their premium-priced AAA titles.
If other people don't mind this kind of heavy DLC schedule then that's cool by me and I certainly don't begrudge anyone who wants to buy these packs, but for me personally I find it obnoxious, scummy and greedy.
