Retail lots - are they owned by a Sim or by the Household?

I'm thinking of buying a retail lot for a Sim who is going to head off to University soon. I'm wondering though, does ownership of the Retail lot stick to the Sim who made the actual purchase or is it linked to the whole Household?

I don't want to buy it until she moves off on her own if it will end up staying with the original household when she heads away to college.

I think it's a household ownership, same as the funds.

I think so too, I just am not 100% sure because no matter which Sim in the household buys it any of them can go to it and act as the owner.
But then what happens when the household splits up? I'd like some way to transfer ownership.

For now I'm not buying it yet, but I think I'll make a save and then test it right before she moves out if no one gives information on how it works in this thread before then. She's still a week from high school graduation and I'm actually rotating away from that household right now, so it will be a while before I'm at the point where I can test it though.
  • You need to sell it and have the other sim buy it after you split household. They only take their inventory and money for new house.

100% household owned. I learned the hard way. Also had a sim heading to university. Her beautiful little bakery got stuck with the rest of her family.

    Thank you for confirming.

Such a bummer. I'll have to wait to buy it until she's off to college then. I just want her to set up a little potion shop. She's my first spellcaster sim and I thought a little potion/herbalism shop would be cool to set up in Glimmerbrook.
  • When you split the household just make sure the sim(s) you want to own it stay(s) in the left-hand pane (original household) and any other sims go in the right-hand pane (new homeless household, automatically marked as played/favourited).

Once you have done that, you can move the sims between lots as necessary.

Doing it this way retains any Perks that would get lost when selling and rebuying.
