this isn't detroit so let me have this- To me, it looks like the robots are really done: a fully developed, controllable life state with their own unique needs (Fun, Social, Durability and Energy!) and quirks such as having their own customizable personalities, as well as not being able to go out in the rain or get wet. I appreciate that they can learn and enhance themselves, and that they require constant maintenance without ever aging. They even have their own form of "death" -- if you leave them broken too long they will be reduced to nothing more than a scrap pile.

Hope you can romance them and vice versa!
You can. They can also attend university :D "kalaksed;c-17304736" wrote:
one i'm considering is a store that sells robots (both servos and utili-bots) owned by a servo and run entirely by servos, though that latter part will probably be tricky (always is, getting the sims you want for these positions. took ages to get my fully alien staff for both a restaurant and a retail store)
Does it have to be a specific servo or just any servo? If the latter, wouldn't MCCCs "Import tray sim" function do the trick?
I replaced all the "Men in Black" in Strangerville with an android from my library and it worked like a charm (except during the Welcome Wagon event, I had to wait until they got ready to leave to get the MCCC menu on them).
But I only needed the template sim's traits, appearance and wardrobe, not an already played individual with their history."Wallsisms4ever;c-17305147" wrote:
One thing I didn't get is robot traits. On the stream they said robots come with their own traits, and that you can customize it. But are these traits specific to robots, like we had in Sims 3, or are they normal traits that any sim can have?
I fear, since they said "no new traits," that the robots will use the same traits as other normal sims. I may be wrong, but I don't think they've added any special traits for the other lifestates, only new aspirations. Personally, I really want some more quirky and fun traits (like some of the ones in TS3) such as Never Nude, Eccentric, Neurotic, Coward, Brave, Unlucky/ Lucky, Hydrophobic, No sense of Humour, Shy, Inappropriate (a personal favourite), Proper, Eco-friendly, Allergic and many more. However, I think any new traits should be added to the base game via a patch so that they are available to everyone. I hate when they add them with packs, like they did with Self-Absorbed (with Get Famous), Paranoid (Strangerville) and Child of the Ocean/ Child of the Islands (Island Living)."simfriend1968;c-17305289" wrote:

Wouldn't really make sense to add child of the island/ocean to the base game to those that dont have Island Living.
The issue isn't adding the traits to the packs, it's that we aren't getting enough new traits at a consistent rate and the traits are always really weak and dont add much gameplay.- Joanne_SnowRising Traveler

No, not those two traits in particular, but any others going forward I think should be added to the basegame via a patch. We had so many clever and unique ones in TS3 that I would really like back because they significantly affected Sims personalities and idle animations, but I do not want them in a pack-specific way.
As for the weakness of the TS4 traits, someone on the boards did a comparison of TS3 and TS4 traits a long time ago and said that they were basically the same strength numerically but that TS4 traits are consistently overriden by emotion buffs. So I think the emotion system has interfered with traits in TS4 to the detriment of personalities. I also think some objects have advertisement values that are way too high (like the stereos and the computers in particular). I spent the summer playing off the grid with a family in Sulani, and was amazed at the difference not having any of those objects made to my sims; I saw way more autonomous family interactions and socializing as well as more nuance in the sims' behaviours. I have since reduced the number of computers, televisions and stereos in all my sims' houses, and even restricted some of them (like the computers) and it has made a difference.
I agree with this - it's indeed the emotion system that still causes most of the problems, and it's usually the only thing I mod if I use mods at all. I gotta say that "Meaningful Stories" overrides many of its biggest issues perfectly. Now my melancholic sims actually are melancholic and sims don't just get over someone significant dying in their lives in a matter of 1-2 days. It keeps affecting them. I just wish the sims team could take a little inspiration from this mod and just code it into the game because honestly, it feels like now I play the game they intended to make. One where emotions are fun because they're meaningful and long-lasting. I just don't get why they don't work on this. I do love the game, but that emotions system is totally out of whack and it really should be a priority for them to fix it. If they did, I think people's opinions of TS4 would change significantly. - ck213Seasoned Scout

I loved Servos (Sims 2) and Simbots (sims 3) but Plumbots (sims 3) were somewhat bland :| The new robots look like Plumbots. I was waiting for Robots as a GP, a full lifestate not a feature for Uni. I enjoy Uni at Sims 2, but Sims 3 Uni was one of the worst packs ever: inestable, bugged and boring :/ But I will wait for the livestream to see how robost work, paying full price of an EP to enjoy one feature is risky...
Bland?
The TS3 Simbot was bland one to me and it was so annoying to have sims constantly freaking out over them.
I didn't care much for simbots until I figured out how to make them look human. At that point I didn't mind sims freaking out over my human looking simbot because I could pretend they were experiencing the uncanny valley. I was hoping that EA would finally let us make human looking robots since TS4 is setup already for sims with alternative looks like aliens and vampires. But No!
TS2 Servo was okay, but I preferred the utility bots in TS2. They were fun and had more variety.
TS4 utility bots seem bland and a step backwards compared to TS2 utility bots.
Same boring design, different color.
I did not want robots as part of Uni either.
They can only be watered down and take away work that should be focused on University.
I do hope we will have a Future Technology pack. TS3 had Simbots and Plumbots thanks to Into The Future.
I really enjoyed Plumbots in TS3.
I loved the building process. You can make a wide variety of robots with combinations of functions and designs.
My sims had a micro manufacturing set up in their basement.
They started out as suppliers to the robot store in my town.
They provided nanites, processors and crystals.
I added TS3 University equipment to help streamline their manufacturing process.
They eventually earned enough money to buy out the robotics shop.
They then began offering their own designs.
Looking back on this, why am I not playing TS3 right now?
I did have a scenario that I never played out. I wanted to have sims travel to the future and bring back technology.
They would then start a business selling advanced technology products to the town. The town would grow as they invested their money in properties and slowly build the town to look more like the Into The Future city. Lots of sims would have robots, floating cars, hover boards, jet packs, futuristic homes, as I slowly made over the world.
If I get bored with TS4 two weeks after the latest expansion, I will so go back to TS3 and do this.
I am hoping that won't be the case however. University is the pack I have been waiting for in order to play my sims multi-generationally.
I am starting to play the game more in depth now just because Uni is coming. I have been enjoying playing the parenting skills and character values game play so far. I am looking forward to my sims that are children now, becoming teens and preparing for University.
