Royalties and moving out

I know that when a Sim moves himself and everyone else in the household into a new house/apartment, his or her royalties move with them. I also know that when said Sim dies, royalties die with them.

But. What I need to know, when I split a household and move a writer (or a Sim that gets royalty payments from something) out either alone or with someone else. Will the royalties move with the writer or will it stay with the remaining household?

  • I don't know for sure about royalties. My guess is that they stay with the Sim they belong to. I do know that shared assets (restaurants and businesses) get messed up when you split the household. It works better to sell the asset and then have the Sim that you want to have it buy it back. You will probably have to cheat to split up monetary assets, furniture and such.
  • Royalties move with the sim who earned them. Also, if you aren't actively playing the earning sim, the funds won't accrue while the household isn't active. And, in a couple of my writer sim households, after being away from the family for more than a couple sim days, the royalties stopped altogether, even though they weren't anywhere near being 20 days old. I found, to keep my non-active writer sim accumulating royalties, I had to switch to her household every 2-3 days, during a royalty payment (at 10am), then I could switch back to another household for a couple more days.

Oh god really? So if my Sim has written and published 5 books. The royalties stop completely if I don't go to that household every 2 or 3 days?
  • That's what has happened in my game and I believe I saw one other person say the same happened to them. (Just wanted to clarify, when you are not actively on that sim/family, they won't be getting any royalties at that time regardless. You have to be active on that lot at 10am for them to get a royalty. And after a few days away from them consecutively, the payments stopped altogether. All you have to do is switch to that sim/family house once a day or every few days around 9am and let the royalties come in at 10am, then switch back to your other family).
  • Oh wow. Is there a mod out there that makes sure that royalties stay even when I am away?

I don't need them to accrue just resume when I go back to that household. I am a rotational player in multiple households (and I have at least 3 writers) and I play at least a week in each before moving on. Going back to a specific household every 2-3 days is not an option.

Whenever I have had to do that (if I have forgotten something in previous household, for instance), pop into another household for say, 2-3 sim hours, everyone I had sent off to work and/or school are back home and have lost school/work/pay day. As an example, this morning I had to go back to a household I was in before (because I forgot some stupid thing) playing my current household and when I got back, my sim in my current household lost a chance at promotion for that day. And he would have gotten that promotion.

I only leave a household at 7am Sim time to start a another household in my rotation. That way I am into the new household at roughly the same time, so I can send everyone off where they are supposed to be...

So. Any mod out there that can save my writers' some grief?
  • the person(s) who are not being added to a new household gets the royalties. The ones who are part of the new household dont get any.
  • I moved my Global Superstar out of his parent's home and in with his married sister and his royalties came with him. He writes music as well as releases such.
  • There is a mod that makes royalties inheritable if the sim earning the royalties dies. (Might even be a feature of MCCC...don't recall).

Beyond that, my understanding is you don't 'lose' the royalties just because you are playing another household, they just freeze...so if you had 2 weeks of royalties left, and then played a different active household for 2 weeks, the sim who had the 2 weeks of royalties will still have 2 weeks of royalties left if you go back to actively playing them.

I don't know this from personal experience, but I'm pretty sure I've seen someone explain it that way here in the forums. Based on what others here have said, sounds like it is glitchy though if that's how it is supposed to work.
