Should Swimming/Diving be it's own skill?

I agree with you. It's kind of ridiculous that my Sim can swim perfectly because she goes for a jog everyday and it's the same skill...

Absolutely! I lift weights every day and swimming is a totally different exercise

I could totally see swimming & diving being it's own skill, in the way that snowboarding and rock climbing are, in that it DOES build fitness skill as well at the same time, but at a slower rate and is also it's own thing with it's own unlocks. I would particularly appreciate that change if it also came with a swimming/diving aspiration, which I'd really been hoping for when Island Living first came out.

I would say yes it deserves to be it's own skill. If rock climbing and snow boarding can be separate, then swimming should be as well. Swimming is a completely different activity than working out at the gym.

I did not think a swimming skill should be tied to island living. Building pools is a base game possibility, get together added a swimming pool lot, newer worlds also have swimmable areas,... Diving can only be done in sulani, so that makes sense to be tied to island living.

After all music is also split into the different instruments and singing and cooking is split into cooking, gourmet cooking and baking. There is no reason why swimming has to be part of fitness.

Yes- and no. It would be weird if a sim with a maxed out swimming skill wouldn't be able to do a simple run on a treadmill or lift some weights.

What we really need is sub skills. So, have fitness as a base skill and swimming, basketball, soccer, etc. as sub skills. Sims with a high fitness skill should learn the sub skills faster, and maybe have some bonuses from that, but it shouldn't be a given that a sim who's great at basketball is also a master soccer player.

The same could be true for music and culinary skills. Someone who can play the piano will learn guitar a lot faster than someone who's never touched an instrument in their lives. It also doesn't make much sense that a sim with a maxed out culinary cooking skill can't bake a decent cupcake, because it's tied to a different skill.

I wish the skills were organized differently.

All physical skills could have a common "Fitness" skill, but from level 6 also require an additional specific skill, like Workout, Yoga, Swimming, Jogging etc.

All music instrument skills could have a common "Music" skill, but from level 6 also build the more specific Guitar, Piano, Fiddle etc.

Cooking already has this kind of, with Gourmet Cooking require a few Cooking skills to be available.

I think someone who are used to jogging will be a better swimmer than someone who spend all their time in a sofa watching TV. And someone learning Piano will probably learn Guitar easier, because they already has some knowledge/feeling for the dynamics/notes etc.

For singing it always annoyed me that a sim can sing a holiday cheer quite well, but once starting practicing Singing it sounds like a horrible cat jam. Then again, at a birthday cheer the same sim sings totally fine, while next singing lesson is horrible again. I realize cheers don't have much variety based on skills, but they feel rather immersion breaking.

In short:I don't really want a specific skill for Swimming/Diving, but would welcome it as a specialized skill like Gourmet cooking is.

I am an excellent swimmer in real life, the fastest of my friends, but cardio on land is very different than in the water to be fair.

I'm buffled that the basegame does not have a basic modern divingboard no floaties, nothing for the water as entertainment in general. It's acutally freaking sad. I was dissapointed to find that out. After almost 8 years and I just bought last week the basegame. Now I know why I was waiting so long and still I got dissapointed. :'( So many things the basegame is lacking, honestly and I don't understand why especially not after so many years?

Yes, Sims should have their own skill sets for swimming. Fitness as in Gym is another sort of skill same goes for dancing. Fitness should not be considered as yeah it's sport let's call it all Fitness. There is a reason why we say in real life I'm good at swimming or dancing etc.... Don't understand this way of merging skills together under the term "Fitness".
