- LadyKynRising TravelerAmbitions was rinse and repeat really and it got pretty boring for me. Think the only thing I really liked with it was the inventor aspect in blowing things up and the destruction of public property. :p Interior design was a bit more involved compared to the other careers.
I like GTW more over ambitions. I do,t always follow the check list all the time less I'm look into have my sim move up more. Really missed the retail open for business that sims 3 didn't have. Bit easier compared to Sims 2 OFB I tended to go broke often, but it still had features from it I wish had returned (owning a club and sims paying a fee to be on the lot). Plus I can make my own retail stores for Sims to be at as well, which is a plus for me. "JoAnne65;c-16301487" wrote:
I really like some of the Ambitions careers, even though they are lineair and checklist based. I liked the stylist career because I played it in Sunset Valley and restyling townies there is a very gratifying job :p I liked the ghostbuster and the firefighter career (the latter is bugged but playable for me with a work around) because I like the hunting aspect and the action. The investigator was a let down for me, I quit beforehand.
As for GTW, like in Ambitions I’m not a fan of the lineair aspect. I do like the fact you have real colleagues and the animations are nice (I briefly did the police career and the scientist career for quite a while). The police career felt fake (comparable to the investigator career in Ambitions) and after enjoying the scientist for a couple of days, I lost interest because I didn’t see any progress in animations. It was like making your sim do the very same things over and over again day after day. I left her busy working on the rocket (when I returned to TS3), I would have loved for her to go to Sixam (a really nice touch of that pack), but building that rocket as such was a bore too - tick tick tick tick, I’d always put on speed 3, as I did with all the other animations after seeing them a couple of times - and stood in the way of promoting (I had to ignore the checklist). Going to Sixam though is still on my to do list and a reason to continue with that sim one day.
All in all I prefer Ambitions, because there was some creativity in there (stylist and decorator) and action (ghosthunter and firefighter). And another aspect I loved and used for many sims I played, is the ability to register as self-employed.
Out of the three careers I like the Police the best. Though the whole find the suspect thing is botched. But I just roll along with it. lol And I downloaded a new police station, so one of the cells actually lets the prisoners out, so they roam around the station.- if it comes to active jobs then Ambitions by FAR
way more diverse & there is way more jobs than those meager 3 in GTW
the only good thing GTW brought was business, it's worse than TS2 OFB but oc still better than what TS3 ever got
all in all i still prefer Ambitions
i can play a detective, a firefighter, a stylist, those 3 active jobs are the best imo from the available new 5
Ambitions has also sculpting & inventing as skills, both can be made to a hobby or a main job of a sim
edit
Ambitions has also motorcycles to the already available cars & death by meteor :naughty:
& each pack in TS3 brought additional traits to the already available huge bunch of the base game  - Sigzy_29New SpectatorAmbitions is a much better EP than GTW will ever be.
It has self employment that works with almost any skill where you can craft or harvest things and gives you the most freedom. You can also play with the consignment skill and level up the more stuff you sell there, so that you get more and more cash for what you sell.
Ambitions had more active jobs and expanded the doctor career so that you can do house calls and check sims on the street plus the goals weren't as repetitive as in TS4 since they were more generalised. You could be a teacher (rabbit hole career), a tattoo artist, inventor, sculptor, architect, stylist, firefighter, ghost hunter, doctor, investigator and in addition sims can be professional gardeners, fisherman, nectar makers, photographers, painters, alchemists, band player, bot builder, scuba diver and horsemen.
Ambitions also had, eco friendly stuff, washers and driers, earthquakes, death by meteor, real estate where you can get money off of venues, it has more than the one skill GTW offers, kids could sell cupcakes and muffins in the selling stand etc. - Ambitions! sims 3 had better expansion packs
- Ambitions. Self-employed options allowed me to create my own active careers.
I select the self-employed option I want for my sim and send them to a building or office I designed for them to actively work at.
I decide their days and hours of work. I decide what they do/don’t do at work. I decide where they work. I can choose the scenarios on how my sim will go about earning their money from being self-employed.
I have a hacker who works in an office building at night.
I have a painter who paints at a studio; another one paints at the parks.
I have writers who write at the office or at home.
My trainers have a few gyms designated as their work places.
Etc. Etc.
In the meantime, I can control another sim with a different self-employed option in the same building or in a different one at the same time.
That’s how I play with my imagination! - Sigzy_29New Spectator

Hmmm... let me compare it...
TS3 Ambitions :- Professions :
- Firefighter
- Investigator
- Ghost Hunter
- Stylist
- Architectural Designer
- Skills/Freelance jobs :
- Sculptor
- Inventor
- Tattoo Artist
TS4 Get To Work- Active careers :
- Detective
- Doctor
- Scientist
- Retailer
- Skills/Retail business:
- Baker
- Photographer
Honestly, I only used Firefighter in TS3 Ambitions, I had always fun with this career.
In TS4 Get To Work, I only played to the Doctor career, it's fun the first time but it's not fun everyday.
Even if I didn't play to the Scientist career, I like the objects (Cloning machine, SimRay, ...).
The Retail business owned by NPC helps my sims to purchased upgraded objects.
TS3 SimBot vs TS4 Alien, I never used SimBot and I create a lot of Aliens.
I choose TS4 Get To Work because 2 years later I still keep on using several features from this EP unlike TS3 Ambitions.
Photography is no longer a GTW skill. So you only get Baking with it. And you forgot the self employed feature of Ambitions. - Professions :
- Definitely Ambitions. It came with a lot more than GTW did, and the professions were basically open ended. Self-employment was awesome! It also added in real estate ownership so you could purchase venues, collect the revenues, and be somewhat of a real estate tycoon. Ambitions was a really good pack.
- Ambitions, hands down. It's a much more flexible EP.
I have one character who lives in the backwoods of a custom world. Compared to the rest of the world, that area is foggy, damp, and very atmospheric. The eccentrics tend to dwell out there.
I had him ride his motorcycle into town so that he could register as self-employed. Then I he purchased the dive bar down the road from his hovel. He makes his money tending bar and gabbing with the locals or the occasional townie who feels like slumming for the night. If I played with occults, his bar would have made a pretty good version of Merlotte's. When he's not working, he makes moonshine down in his basement to sell to those who prefer the house special.
That was the beauty of the EP. The only limit was my own imagination. I could utilize content from any pack to create the type of business or career that interested me most. - MidnightAura86New SpectatorAmbitions!
It's bigger, better, allows more options and isn't linear and full of repetitive checklists like Get to work. It also gave us self employment which is awesome.
