SIMS 4 TOOK A STEP DOWN... THEY PUSHED IT OUT TOO SOON

Sims 4 creators are not only missing things that made Sims 3 great but from playing this game for 239 hours so far... im disappointed with game play.

LOADING TO GO ACROSS THE STREET?!! REALLY??!!
How do you go from driving to lots in the Sims neighborhood to just bringing up a loading screen for everything. You shouldn't have to load the screen to go anywhere in your neighborhood. It really should show the Sims in transit whether they are walking or driving. The only time I wouldn't be mad if the loading screen appeared is if you were going to a different neighborhood; even then the loading screen could be something fun like .

MARRYING A SIM/DIVORCING A SIM
How come last names don't change or at least have an option to change your last name to your mates? Where is the option to move out or purchase another home like Sims 3? My sims divorced her husband and he couldn't move out on his own. This was very unrealistic...there used to be options for moving a sim out.

NO TODDLERS
the babies go from infants to children...this is just lazy and not realistic at all. You should not need a Expansion Pack to see this stage of life. Its bad enough that the pregnancies are short with no options to extend for sims with a longer life span. Pregnancies should match your sims life span.

HEIGHT ADJUSTMENTS
the teens being the same height as adults is dumb and lazy. Every Sim in the Sims 4 world is the same height and thats annoying (this should be an advanced feature to take a step up from The Sims 3).

COMMUNITY LOTS
where are the hospitals and beaches??? In Sims 3 you didn't need an Expansion Pack to get these lots and interact on these lots. I purchased the Get To Work Expansion Pack expecting it would come with the lots advertised but I still don't see a hospital or police station (nothing but retail stores).

SIMS IN THE SIMS 4 AREN'T AS AWARE OF OBJECTS Or SIMS WHEN COMPLETING A TASK....
An Example;) My sim went to sit down while drinking and sat directly in another sim. 2). My sim was standing in front of the refrigerator getting something out and another sims came up from behind and went through my sim to get something out the refrigerator "ANNOYING". The Sims 4 creators really need to fix this. It happens a lot*

THE CAMERA CONTROLS SUCK FOR SIMS 4
You should be able to tilt, go back, go forth, and rotate the camera all from the mouse like Sims 3...even though it has an option to use the Sims 3 camera (It still doesn't work like the Sims 3 Camera) you have to use the keyboard to tilt. "I REALLY HATE THE CAMERA CONTROLS".

These reasons are why I say Sims 4 shouldn't be called Sims 4 it really should be called Sims 2...because it took a major step down as far as game play/and the stupid loading screen for everything.

BTW
Sometimes the loading music doesn't even stop and I have to play with the annoying background music or start the game all over again. This sucks

  • But, do you want to know the saddest thing? When it comes to comparing TS2 and TS4 in terms of hardware demands vs. features offered, base game for base game and pack for pack, TS2 still comes out head-and-shoulders above TS4 most of the time.

The TS2 base game still offers more features and versatility in both build/buy and live modes than TS4's base.

TS2's "Pets" expansion still delivers more gameplay punch in terms of features, gameplay, and unlockables than TS4's "Cats & Dogs" expansion for the increase in hardware demands it adds to the game.

TS2's "Apartment Life" EP gives players witchcraft, ceilings and the ability to paint them, and the ability to build your own apartment buildings while TS4's "City Living" gives you apartments you can barely edit that only exist in one town with no ability to create your own apartment buildings anywhere else in the game, festivals, and a few activities and jobs which really could have just as easily been in the base game (one of which was advertised as a base game thing early on, messed-up enough).

There's no proper comparison in terms of TS2's "Open for Business" and TS4's "Get to Work" from my experience because they have radically different focuses. OFB is more about running a retail shop while GTW is more focused on the active careers, and neither of them really shines to me from my experiences. The best things from GTW are the Scientist career and aliens with the Doctor career being dull as dirt and the Detective career being fun if you're playing a bad cop but still painfully repetitive because every case is exactly the same, and maybe I'm playing OFB's retail shops wrong or something since most fans of the pack are quite taken with OFB's retail system, but I just can't get the hang of it for the life of me!

The only EP from TS4 so far that seems to be a remotely close power-to-features bargain to its TS2 counterpart is "Get Together", but that's only because of how nice Windenburg is, the addition of the Foosball table and arcade machine as activities my sims can enjoy together, how adorable my Teen vampire sim looks DJ-ing (He's so precious. It's priceless.), and how much the clubs system and certain new social interactions contribute to gameplay. However, "Night Life" did add restaurants, bowling, and cars, which still makes it the better deal in the end.

TS4 vs. TS2 is proof that it isn't the power of the system a game is made for that determines the quality of the game, but how well-planned and well-organized the game is on the development side. Heck, some might go, "But TS2 has less advanced graphics", but comparing TS2's graphics on the highest settings with TS4's graphics, the only things really different for me are the visual style and color palate...and the fact that TS4 generates pear people instead of dumpling-heads.

I agree with your entire post. The above sums up the issue very nicely.

After three previous incarnations, it suddenly feels like the powers that be at EA have gotten collective amnesia and have forgotten their audience. It shouldn't feel like it's their first time at the rodeo, but it does. At this point, it feels like they're winging it and have never made allowances for things that they knew that the community would ask for because we've been doing it for...oh, only the last fifteen years!

  • As person that's been playing The Sims for well over a decade, I can't believe how bad TS4 is compared to theTS2. I am dumbfounded. I just keep asking myself how? How is that even possible? When I say TS2 is better than TS4 I mean like if you were to play them today. Yes, TS4 has more customization for the actual sim but other than that TS4 sucks. Like why can't I make my own worlds from stock blank worlds?? Why is it okay to put things in stuff packs that they know belongs in a game pack?? Why do we still only have one vacation world?? I know people say it's a cash grab but if they wanted to make money then they should have at least made a game as good as the one they released in 2004. This is sad. If EA ever comes out with TS5 I don't think I'll care and that breaks my heart. I really loved this game.
  • This just feels like a side game, I enjoyed playing sims life stories and the console games but it didn't feel the same as playing the pc game. I've grew up playing sandbox modes of games, I rarely ever played the scenarios because I don't enjoy completing someone else's goals which they have set.
I do enjoy The Sims 4 but only when I want to kill some time, it feels like a game that would be available on a gamesforgirls website. I'm suprised they didn't make only the young adult life stage.

Unless I can delete all my memories of earlier games, I will never enjoy Sims 4.
  • I know this thread is old, and I'm not sure if I've replied before, but I do agree. It would've largely benefited from a 6-12 month delay.

Now, Sims 4 is in a better shape today, but it's still missing some things. And there are others that likely won't come back because they should've been implemented from the start. I'm talking about custom worlds and CASt. It's too late to retroactively change all the work they've done to include those things. It's such a shame too.

Even if I'm enjoying TS4 now, I did quit it for almost two years due to how lacking it is, and I only gave it another shot after all the improvements. Even so, until now we still don't have base game staples like burglars and terrain tools. It still has a long way to go.

After everything, TS5 better be amazing. I'd be impressed if they did something difficult and novel, like actual varying heights and gradual aging. Or something. No more online crud, unless it's just a secondary feature or a spinoff title, because some games are better off single player. I'm sure they've learned their lesson from the SimCity launch disaster.
  • Honestly, TS4 is a fun game, but there are just some things that really drive me nuts about it. One thing that made no sense at all was the noticeable weight my toddler was gaining. My parent Sims only fed her when she was hungry enough to be sad. She also comes from thin, well bodied descent. On top of that, she exercises (running around, dancing, climbing stairs, etc.) a lot and on a daily basis. But despite all that, the amount of weight she was tucking under her belt just kept growing and growing. And apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. I was beginning to worry that the weight would carry over into the preceding age groups, and eventually had to modify her bodyweight through a cheat code. Another thing involving metabolism is that skinny children can magically age into weightly teens. Does anyone else have this problem?
