Sims are napping not sleeping

I don't have mods or CC. Haven't played this game in forever. My Sims are not managing their needs properly, but it is most noticeable with sleeping. Instead of going to sleep under the blankets, they are choosing to nap on top, which doesn't fill the need very fast. They're also doing stupid things like eating spoiled food (dorms). Is this normal?

This is a new game with new Sims I just created over the past week or so. Around 10 families.

  • It can be a pain. I hear you. I just click on the bed and choose Sleep when I catch my Sims napping. Mostly I use the Make Happy cheat, since I've got four in uni at the moment. Yes, they're siblings and I chose to get through uni with them in one fell swoop. LOL They've each got two credits to go for graduation and it now feels like absolute grinding. I'm growing a tad weary, which is something I feared. While I like the notion of uni, none of the iterations have been fully satisfying from this player's viewpoint. I'm not easily bored, either, so that's saying something. Even though after five intensive days of playing uni, I have gotten it down to a bit of a science. Each Sim is doing very well in their respective studies.

I use coolspear's auto sleep no nap mod. It fixed that problem for me.

They absolutely nailed the "experience", but it is one that I don't ever want to relive again. Haha. The sleep bug is definitely making it that much more miserable.

Thanks for the tip. I am off to look for this mod.

I was hoping it was going to be fixed in the last, very large patch, but alas nothing. I was also looking for a fix of the wearing cold outdoor clothes throughout the house, instead of changing at the door bug.
  • FYI - it doesn't look like Coolspear is updating his mods at the moment and I couldn't find that particular mod anyway. :(

  • No. And I can't imagine playing with no free will. I'm not a micromanager so I'd be overwhelmed really quickly.
  • I noticed when I click their "tired" icon on the needs bar, they will normally just take a nap. If I click on their bed and tell them to "sleep", they will normally sleep. So I will mostly use the latter.
  • Well I've posted this in another discussion thread but it seems fitting so...

I've got the same problem. But instead of napping, my sim goes to bed, just to wake up 5 minutes later. They won't sleep through, they always gets up and their needs are a mess, since they refuse to sleep, but are too tired to do anything else and just pass out. Had to stop my game - this in unplayable.
It's happening since the last update. I hope they are going to fix this issue soon, otherwise the game is - at least for me - unplayable.
  • I think that I am having a similar issue with needs. They're all over the place and go down way too fast and seem to take extra long to fill. I think another issue is with the stairs. My Sims will go into a random T-pose and then reset somewhere else. This might be why they aren't doing what I tell them to, like go upstairs and go to bed. I've noticed it a lot in dorms and now I've been noticing it on my home lots with stairs, too.

This game looks like it requires mods at this point. But the updating schedule is so often that I don't want to be bothered. If anything else, I'll just forget about this and go back to TS3.
  • I noticed the napping issue as well, but it's always one specific sim who does it. The others go to sleep as usual. I've noticed some other annoying things with autonomy as well, like sims constantly going to the fridge to cook a single meal despite two group meals already being in the fridge. I haven't noticed sims eating spoiled food though.
